since the last week, my rear window on the driver side is messed up. Basically it goes down with the power window but it dosnt go back up, when I try to hit the up button, i hear the motor moving, but it dosnt touch the window, so the window just stays there....now the window goes up manually when I pull it with my hands, but when I am driving and go on bumps or potholes, the window will slide back down halfway....since winter started, its really a pain to drive. My friend said it might be a bad motor, but i hear the motor and thinkin the window is not sitting on the motor....anyone know how to change this or have a solution to this problem plz help.
thx

Without knowing what year your Grand Am is, its hard to say what the problem would be. I know certain years of the Grand Ams that there was problems with the window regulators which is the mechanism for lowering and raising of the window.

The window regulators now work from cables rather than the scissors style regulator and it often goes bad. GM recently lowered the price on the window regulators for the "N" bodies like your Grand Am from $300 to just over $100. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are but if you don't feel comfortable doing it then I would suggest a shop. I can get you the part for around $75 but I would feel much better if you did have it checked out to see if indeed it is the regulator before you get the part. You can email me direct at [email protected] or visit my website for online catalogs at www.gm-car-parts.com. Good Luck. Bob

I had that problem. Ran around with duct tape holding the window up. Did finally find the problem after replacing the motor twice. The mounting for the motor was rivited, and they were loose. This caused it to slip when pushing the window up. I drilled the old rivit out, and replaced it with a small screw, lock washer and nut. Havent' had any more problems.

Hi. I have the same problem wih my Grand Am 2000. Does anyone know the way to pop the door paneling off? I've gotten it popped up with a cro bar all around the perimeter, but somethin's holdin' on in the middle there.
Any techs or weekend warriors out there know how to get the da&* thing off?
Thanx

Hey there, Ive just put a new regulator on my wife's car and I bought a freekin' book to do this. If it is a 4 door and the front drivers door there are three screws I removed from the middle. You are more than likley missing the screw under the window switch cover. Pry the cluster of buttons up and you'll find a screw there.that's the one that got me.
