Rear Window Defogger

The connector to the rear window defogger of my 2001 Suburban came off. I tried soldering the connector to the thin copper film on the glass but it keeps on peeling off the copper coating. Is there a way to fix this instead of replacing the whole glass panel? I need the defogger to work. Thanks.
