I changed out my fuel pump a few days ago because when I turned the key on there wasnt that few seconds whine of the fuel pump...so.....I changed out the fuel pump......still no power to it.....so I found the relay under the hood in the box and swithed out the relays....still nothin.....so I slammed the hood and was giveing up on it,but.....I thought I would try once more....turned the key....heard the whine it started......this was a few days ago.....now...I got about 30 mile4s from home...same thing. Fuel pump isnt coming on.....
Any Ideas????????

try wiggling all the wires under the relay and see if that helps. It just sounds like a loose conection somewhere under the hood

Thanks...I will give that a shot...I forgot to add.....I checked the voltage at the connector wrer it plugs into the pump.....I'm getting 12v for a bout 2-3 seconds when I turn the key on...then it goes to 0...I assume the is the charge up voltage.....but still wont come on. And...I hooked up the old pump straight to a battery and it works.....so..I pluged it up and turned they key on and it wont run either...so..I will give the wingleing a try...
Thanks for response.....

That is the prime voltage.
It primes the pump for two seconds and then shuts off.

sounds like a bad connection if you can hard wire it and it pumps, check the connections

do you have an alarm. some alarms shut off the ecm power while others just stop the starter from turning. my wifes 1999 taurus shuts off the ecm.

So whats the easiest way to hard wire it?? And if its getting voltage power to prime..why isnt it priming?? Sorry...first time dealing with pumps on a S-10..

No...I dont have a alarm....but I was reading something about pass lock?? Something about if I have the wrong key?? But my key doesnt have a chip in it...And I been using the same key for 3 years now....

How much fuel do you have in the tank.
From what I have heard, you have to have it up to a certain level in the tank to prime it for the first time.

your pass lock is the problem.

are you saying you have pass lock or you dont know? i cant remember the exact name of the system. maybe one of the other guys would know.

I'm not for sure...its in the manual....how do you reset it??

i dont think you can reset it. you might have to bypass it.

Well....same story again...I was about to give up on it...tryed it once more....turned the key....pump charged up..it started...now my gage doesnt work...and when I started it it had a REALLY bad ticking....And there was alot of condensation coming out of the tailpipe...but... I let it run for awhile and the ticking went away.....I dont have a clue what is wrong with this thing...BTW..I have a sevice engine light on now....
Thanks again for the responses

Well, I would bet you have a Passlock system failure. Pay attention to the security light on the dash and what it does. It should light up and go out. If it stays on or flashes, that's your problem. You can turn your ignition on for 10 minutes then crank it over to get it to start.

Thanks.....I will keep a close eye on that......Are you sure I have passlock though??? My key doesnt have a chip in it or anything.....And, I had a extra key made at wal- mart awhile back and it works fine.....

scan the ecm and get that check engine light code. the ticking is most likely from the engine sitting and the lifters have no oil pressure. that is usually normal if a motor sits for a while. dont worry about it as long as it goes away within 10seconds or less. which gauge doesnt work?

WEll, then go to the Autozone and get the codes read and come back here with the number you got.
We need the exact number.

If you are having problems with both the pump and fuel gauge I would guess there is a problem at the connectors to the pump/pickup. If that connection is craped out it might cause both problems. Just an idea.

dont quote me on this but i think if you disconnect the connector to the fuel gauge sending unit the fuel gauge should red full (high resistance) and if there is a short in the circuit (low resistance) the fuel gauge should read empty. check this out! look under the vehicle and make sure no wires have been crushed, damaged, or shorted out. also, check the connectors for damage or corrosion.

Ok...got the code.....P0452

11-15-2004, 07:58 PM
Well.... I found out what it is...i reached ontop of the pump and moved the wires around...trying to get the gage to work......and turned the key on and the pump didnt come on...moved the wires back to were they were and the pump come on......I gues its the connector or a bad wire.....So...I assume thats why the gage isnt working also?????

P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input
busa_4
11-16-2004, 07:20 AM
p0452 low input. that code is because there is intermittent voltage to the tank pressure sensor. fix the wiring/connector problem and clear the code. it should not come back on when problem is fixed.
