How hard would this be? i have a 91 rs with a 305 and its a manual. I just put in my third clutch in 6 months and im really tired of it. I had about 3 minutes of instruction on driving a stick and i obviously havent got it yet and i dont want to put another 500 dollars in to another clutch in 2 more months so how hard and expensive would it be to convert my manual in to a automatic?
Thanks for the help

well, if you were to find a doner car, get the tranny, fluid lines, and cooler, as well as the speed sensor, it would be pretty much a no brainer. just pull the manual tranny, and put the auto in its place. the third gen autos arent computer controlled so it should be pretty strait forward. i dont know if youll need the automatic driveshaft, or just the trans side yoke. you also might need the speedo cable from it to make it wok with your speedometer.

You'll probably be able to do this free. Post the parts on Ebay. The T5 alone should get at least $600. Some of the parts, like the Z bar, are no longer available. Most people also want to go the other way, somebody's bound to want it all. If you find a 700R4 in a donor Camaro, the speedo should work right.

Thanks guys for the help, i think i found a donor car, im gonna go and look at it today. The engine has less miles than mine too, so i might just swap the engines too. My reservation about that is the engine in the donor car is a carberated 305, and i dont know if ill loss power, gian power or stay the same. The donor is a 84 base model camaro coupe, so an info about the power differance would be appreciated. Thanks agian guys.

you will loose power, 84 carbed 305 is 150hp, 91 TBI 305 is 170hp

Thats good to know. Its probobly about where mine is now with the stem seals needing to be replaced and my exhaust going to hell really quick. How could i beef up the 84, if i bought it? Would a new carb help? or would i need to do more?

Thanks agian for the help.

a new carb isnt really going to do much. if you are looking for more power, your gonna have to do the old fasioned stuff, cam, heads, headers, intake, higher compression, all that fun stuff. but with a 305, youd be better off getting a 350 and running with it.
