a friend of mine just informed me that his grandmother is selling her 1996 caprice with just 75,000 miles, for somewhere around $3000 (maybe more maybe less) the only thing that makes me nervous is that it has the 4.3L V8. i dont know anything about this engine. how reliable is it? can it take abuse? is it decent powerwise? how does it compare to the LT1? i know thats alot of questions but any info is greatly appreciated

Just as reliable or unreliable as an LT1. The L99 is the baby LT1. They look identical from the outside. L99s were rated at something like 200hp though. Not nearly as powerful as the LT1s. For $3k though and with low miles like that..... Sound pretty good to me. I'd expect the car to be in very good condition.

I have recently purchased a 1994 caprice classic in great conditions. It has 82,000 miles on its 4.3L V8 and I purchased it for $2,200 from a dealership in my area. The dealership actually had it listed at $4,380 and the car blue books for $3,400 however the bank would not even loan that much money for that car because they claim they would never receive that money back in a resale. the most they would purchase it for is $2,200 so the dealership kind of had no choice. I would like to take the time to thank that bank for all the help they gave me.
