fuel problem i think

ok ill try my best to explain the situation with my noob wisdom :dunno:

ok the car starts but wont run. it will make the noise and will run for a few secs if you spray carb cleaner on it. I was wondeing if anyone had any probs like this. Had the fuel pump checked its not that. My buddy said it could be oil pressure sending switch. This camaro has had all types of little problems but with only about 60k miles on it great body minus it will need a new rear drivers side quarter panel clean interior for 500 bucks i want to fix this shit sometime this year lol. I am sorry i cant explain it better i have 0 mechanical knowledge i just love cars and driving them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a manual on the camaro and have been looking for stuff in that. It helps but I think some of the guys here might of had a problem like this and could help.

edit I tryed to hook a gm scanner on there today got the vin up on it got the info i already knew about it but couldnt get trouble codes for its since i couldnt link up to the car since i couldnt get it started.

ok, well to run the codes without the car running, put a paper clip in the two terminals on the top row of your DLC farthest to the right. then turn your key to the run position, and watch your check engine light, and start counting flashes, this is called flashing codes, and will tel you just as well what error codes, if any you have. give that a try, and if it dosnt work, ill start throwing out guesses.

never did get around to do the flashing codes havent seen the car in months. dont know if i told u in pm iroc but when u pour fuel on the carb it starts right up then dies when u stop. i could guess all day at what could be wrong and never come close. things i know that it isnt(dont know if this helps) fuel pump and starter. starter was replaced and the pump was checking and was working. same apply as b4 whoever figures it out gets 20 bucks through paypal

well, run the codes ;)

aside from that it definatly appears to be a fuel delivery problem. so...

-make sure the gas tank is full, i know i know its dumb, but my fuel guage is far off in the RS so it could say you have gas when you dont.

- replace the fuel filter, this could be limiting the fuel flow thorugh the lines which wont allow the engine to run

-you might have to disconnect both ends of the fuel line, and blow them out with pressurised air to get rid of a possible blockage.

- check to make sure your injectors are getting the pulse signal, if they arent told to fire, you dont get any fuel.

those are places to start.

good thing i kept the fuel filter i bought then. i am going to right this down and next time i am there i am going to try it. it finally snowed here in chicago so its time to finish the rs

sounds alot like my problem. i hope its not the same for you and probably isnt. but my distributor had rusted just under the cap. and it had the same simptoms as you described. and i checked everything suggested to you. i would pull the dist. cap off and check just to make sure. on mine, little peices had broken off and actually jammed it up... good luck.

My 90 RS had a smaller version of the same problem. It would start but run terrible and have almost no power. I thought it was mechanical, but then I found out that each injector had a fuse, and one of mine was blown. If both of yours were blown, neither injector would be spraying fuel and the car wouldn't start like you said. I don't know, just a cheap quick idea.

little update

tried to run flashing codes nothing came up
the fuel gauge does seem to be off says full tank when there isnt. i filled it up will a few gallons.

today checking fuel filter fuel lines and dist cap.

another side thing dont know if its related but alot of the electrical isnt working dashboard lights headlights, but brake lights and turn signals works.

check off fuel injector signal and dist cap both were in working order. didnt check the fuel filter that will probably be tomorrow. my father in law was wondering if anyone had a link to some schematics(sp) of the fuel system for an 89 rs. any new ideas will be greatly appreciated. i am so sick and tired of driving my century and astro van. i feel like i am 80 driving the century. i need a car some power


EDIT: the car had a viper 3 alarm in it. i dont know shit about alarms but is it possible that could of somehow affected the maro when it was removed(didnt run b4 it was removed)

got a little more history on my maro today. the previous owner had it after he bought it from a guy who it died on while he was driving it. the previous owner he got it to run but then it died. he sold it to my father in law not running and hasnt run since. like i have stated b4 when u pour gas on the carb it will start. its just pissing me off to no end that we cant figure this shit out. i NEED this car. my life is a bore! think of a time when u drove with your grandparents how slow they were going. thats my century good for going to the store bad for everything else. you ever try and pick a chick up in century? not dissing buicks my century took my to everywhere i needed to go, but never brought in the beaver. sorry for my rant again any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
