Which is better?

I was wondering which one would be a better mod for the least amount of money:
- 92-95 Civic Hatchback Si, stock engine and turbocharger
OR
- 92-95 Civic Hatchback DX, VX, or CX; and swap in a B18b engine (and possibly eventually turbocharge)

me i'd go with CX and a b18b if you get a VX you can easly drop in a b16 or B18c cause there pre wired for vtec.

The Si has the most nice stuff and starts peppy and adding boost is pretty easy for a cheap quick car.

I agree with Ace. The CX and VX are lighter than the others, so it makes for a better power to weight ratio. I personally wanted an Si because of the moonroof, but I'm still incredibly happy with my CX. Plus until you do a swap you have killer gas mileage with the CX and VX's. Also if you do get a CX or VX and do a swap, use the engine harness for the motor you're getting or you'll have to wire up the O2 sensor differently.

I'm going to swing the other way. I can't live without all the power options, can do without the moonroof, but not the power windows and door locks and everything. I guess I'm just a lazy spoiled little bitch.

Ladies and Getlemen is THAT what you want your new mod to be?

*this add paid for by the Ac$nyper for mod campain*

LOL j/p mate i couldn't help a poltics joke. Esp right before voting ends.

But you do bring in a very valid point some people do really like there power features. I hope someday to get the $$ to get a moonroof myself cause my STD sure as hell didn't have one hell i didn't get 4 fuel injectors stock but I have A/C :eek7:

Do you people want someone who can't distinguish the difference between ad and add. Choose the intelligent candidate (ie me, myself and I) lol

But yah, I have always had all the power options and i hate riding in my friends RS DA with the damn manual locks and crank window.

LOL. Hilarious guys.

I definently hate not having power options in my car. I went from driving a '90 Oldmobile with power everything to driving a CX with manual everything. I'd still rather drive my Civic than the Olds though (although I never got harassed by cops because they assumed an old man was driving).

ANYWAYS...I'm gathering that it would be better to go with the CX or VX then, right? Even if I can only get the engine swapped and not get turbo any time soon?

I would take Si over the other models. But that's assuming the turbocharged Si wasn't abused by the previous owner. If you're looking for some bodyshop doing engine swap for you, you might end up paying a lot more than buying a car with everything installed for you.

Better yet, why not look up the specs and decide which one suits you best?

I'd perosnally get the DX, CX or VX and swap in a B18B1 (or other B-series if you demand vtec). I'd then save up the extra $$ and throw it on some boost when I could afford it.

The Si on boost will be less expensive though, as turbocharging a D-series costs much less than a B-series. It's also very easy to put your own cheap kit toghter for a D-series,if you don't want to buy a pre-made kit.

In the end, going with ther Si hatch will give you an inexpensive qucik car, since boosting the D-series motor will cost a lot less than boosting a b-series, especially when you factor in the added cost of the swap. However, a boost B-series will give you more power in the end on stock internals, despite the added cost.

In the end, which one is best for you really comes down to what your wants/goals/needs are. Do you want the B-series on boost, the extra power that could with it, despite the extra cost? Or are you fine with a D16Z6 on boost, and the extra cost is not worth it?

That wisdom being said, why didn't you just buy a sports car yourself instead of swapping in a B16B CTR motor, LOL...

Just playing man, I had to say it. :bigthumb:

I bought her in 00 as an A to B, then was a late bloomer in modding cars.. Now that I've made a Civic fast I'm sharing my wisdom by saying it's not worth it. Since he wants to mod a car, and hasn't even bought one yet, my advice is that a sports car would be a better platform than a fwd Civic.

Check and mate :p
