I need help!

whoops....I realized I posted this in the wrong area too late...so sorry everyone....anyways

Hello, I am a 16 year old, and i just got my first car 2 months ago on my birthday. I have been experiencing a problem with the gas gauge, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. The needle on the gauge is stuck way past full and will not move. I was told there was a problem with my floater, so I went to the Chevy dealership and Autozone today. The guy at Autozone told me that they don't carry the stuff to help me, and the guy at the dealership said it would cost 700-800 dollars to fix, which is money I really don't want to spend. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this problem, if it is even worth fixing. Oh yea, and my car is a '96 Camaro RS. Any ideas or advice??? Thanks a lot

There should be a few wires coming from the sending unit on top of the tank. Find the one that goes to ground and make sure the connection is flawless on both ends. When GM gauges stick on full, its a sign that the ground is bad. You may have to lower the gas tank a little to reach in on top.

Reassemble the ground screw to that body with a star washer and a little dielectric grease. The star washer digs into the metal and makes a better contact, and the grease prevents corrosion.
