hey all,
hope someone knows about this. my 1995 safari AC compressor died about 1 1/2 years ago. got an estimate of $1000 to fix, which at this point i'm not going for.
recently it locked up but only when power is applied to it, otherwise it's another idler. ok so far, except for some reason when you turn the heat control to defrost it seems to think the compressor is needed, even when the temp setting is on hot. needless to say this burns up belts fast! so can i simply clip the wires leading to this thing and be able to have a much needed defrost???
thanks in advance for any help,
scott

I say rather than clipping the wires, pull the connector, so it may be repaired by a future owner.
and yes, defrost mode requires the A/C compressor.
