Little Problem With S-10

Alright, for the most part, it runs ok, I just changed a spark plug that was cracked, so at least that is fixed, and I put in a new battery. My problem is this: when I'm just driving around (town and/or freeway/highway), at around 1600-2000 RPMs, it lags a lot. It seems like I have another spark plug shot, because that is what happened with the first bad plug, but above 2200...the S-10 drives awesome. Anyone have a clue as to what the problem is? The engine is right around 145,000 and it is a 1995. My friend seems to thing I have a bad gasket, but it would have A LOT more problems if that was the case. I don't think one of my other spark plugs is bad because I just checked them all, but it lags soooooo bad. Also, the clutch is getting pretty weak and the shifter has slipped a few times and is hella loose, but it still shouldn't explain why the engine is lagging.

Any help is much appreciated.

start by giving it a tune up. dont just replace 1 plug. take care of the maintenence items first. 145k is alot of mileage so replace plugs, wires, pcv, fuel filter, fuel system clean, cap/rotor (if applicable), etc. when the problem is resolved i would also replace the 02 sensor/s. they lose efficiency over time and hurt fuel economy. remember! dont throw parts at it, due your maintenence items first. good luck!

Right on busa 4. I have a 95 with 137000 miles on it and just did almost every thing you said due to my regualar maint. What a difference with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and O2 sensor. One thing i found though, stick with AC Delco. My truck really seems to like the parts chevy intended for the truck.

I wouldn't worry about the transmission yet, but with it starting to slip out of gear you'll probably want to either replace it or have it re-built with your future clutch job
