Galant VR4 Rally Car...

Does anyone on here compete in any rally events using a Galant VR4??

Im looking at getting into Rallying and the only half decent car i can think of that i can import without having a Level3 CAMS licence at a decent price is a 1987-89 Mitsubishi Galant VR4.

I can pick em up for about 7-9k and the first thing i was thinking of doing was stripping out the interior completely apart from the front seats and dash and installing a full roll cage.

The ones im looking at at the moment all have adjustable suspension and a few minor mods and i was wondering if anyone else that uses them could tell me what they have done and what problems they have found or what the best things they did to theyre car?

well i haven't done anything major like u want to do but the vr4 or gsx (same body and chassis) are great rally cars. the car is heavy stock already and if u want to make it lighter u should also try to take out the sound deadner in the trunk out to but it will be hard. the drivetrain is already set up for reving up quick from factory and the rear end is a solid axle and might be LSD. i haven't competed in any rally events but i have gone rallying on many local dirt roads, the car handle well and i can go about 40-60 mph in some corners with very good steering response. doing this all in a stock factory car is limiting but what u want to do will end up with better results and i've seen some people in rally events out in washington in VR4's doing well.
