Hello...Noob here,
I found a cheap '94 Metro I'm going to look at this Sat. She tells me it's never been hit, has a good motor, clutch and gearbox. The problem is (her quote):
"two of the panels on the wiring harness board are cracked and need to be replaced under the steering column"
She tells me that her friend can bypass something in the ignition to allow it to run so I can test drive it, so it doesn't sound like the computer is bad.
Does this sound like a legit problem? Is there a wiring harness board with panels that can crack? I know there's a panel with fuses in that area. Any experience? I probably can't go wrong for $250.
Thanks for any feedback!
Dave

Therre's a fuse panel down there, and it's possible that it got broken, though I've never seen it. Worst case scenario, you might be looking at a couple bits from a scrap yard, and these cars are usually pretty plentiful. The only thing I can figure is that so many people use them for grocery getters and beater cars that they never bother taking care of the bodywork. I know that in this area winter salt will eat right through a car like a Metro if it's not undercoated regularly. That's what I see in the scrapyards around here. Aisles of Metros with perfect drivetrains and huge holes in the body making them fail yearly inspection.
