http://www.alltemp-hvac.com/2004.jpgMy daughter 2004 Grand AM Service Engine Light has illuminated, we were told it's a enginer service reminder for an oil change, wrong...
Car has 25000 miles onit is running smoothly and no apparent problems. Dealer suggest perhaps gas cap was left off. On older GM cars I know you could read diagnostic codes.
On this vehicle is it possible to read diagnostic codes and reset the computer ourselves if it is as simple as the gas cap? Dealer wants $110.00 to diagnose and reset if it is a gas cap, or of course it's under warranty if it is warranty related ( Then there would be no charge)
Thanks , great site, glad it is here...

under the dash beneath the steering column is the standard place and if I do believe the required place for OBD-II compliant vehicles. Curious who is providing the scan tool?

BTW the grand am has dedicated light for oil changes, when it lights up it says "OIL CHANGE". If you watch the bulb check when you turn the key on you will see the OIL CHANGE light in the right top of the instrument cluster just above the speedo.
