McLaren F1 from Canada

Hi everyone I'm new here.
I would like to know if anyone has more infos or pictures on this McLaren F1. The picture was taken at Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada.
The owner of this car is Lawrence Stroll, he is the owner of the Mont-Tremblant race track and owner of the Ferrari of Quebec dealership.
He has a very nice collection of cars....

Ferrari 288 GTO
Ferrari 333 SP
Ferrari 512 BB LM

There are one or two other photos of that car which were taken that day, but I've never seen anything else on that car. I sort of suspect that Stroll might not truly own that car anymore given that the rest of his collection is seen so frequently, and this car has only been spotted once. The thing that leaves me questioning that, is this F1 is a fairly unique shade of silver/grey and I'm not aware of any other cars in North America that look like it. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the chassis number is for this car.
You can search this forum and find that this car and it's supposed owner have been discussed at least a few times in the past. If you need the other pictures of the car I can put them up for you later.

Is the McLaren F1 street legal in Canada?
On a Montreal car site, someone saw this McLaren F1 at Ferrari of Quebec. But you're right by saying we never see this car. At track events he never brings the McLaren. (but the same could be said about the F50, F40 and 288 GTO.) Atleast he brings the Enzo. (I saw his Enzo many times)
In my opinion he still has the car, but only drives on his race track. Public are not allowed to enter to look.

That's certainly possible too. There are several owners who's F1s aren't seen all that often. I guess if you are local you could try to find out through someone at the track or maybe at that dealership. :thumbsup: ;)
I really don't know what the laws are in Canada for a car like this. I don't believe they were certified for sale in Canada originally. I know you guys have the "15 year rule" for importing cars that weren't originally legal for sale, but were still about 5 years away from that for the earliest of F1s to be elligible. Here in the USA we have a "Show & Display" provision that allows the cars in for limited road use once they meet the EPAs requirements. I wonder if the Canadian government has something similar on the books. :confused:

Incidentally, I did my own search of the forum, and you'll find several instances where Mr Stroll's name is spelled "Strohl" like you will find on that website with the photos. In some of those threads, you'll see that his F1 was listed as being chassis #045, but that is actually incorrect.
Chassis #045 was originally one of the 7 Ameritech F1s imported by Amerispec Corp for Gerd Petrik. Then it became Seth Neiman's and was recently sold once more to Gary Schaevitz who already owns chassis #014, a yellow F1. Chassis #045 has never been Stroll's car leaving the chassis number of that one in the photos still a mystery.

So I guess in 2004 the car must have between 900-1000 km. (thats not a lot)
Plus the guy said the F1 was plated Quebec, not commercial, personnal plate. I sent him a message asking for pics. He said he has some pics but he will have to find the photos in his computer.
I don't know if I can trust this guy, anyway if he shows the pics then I will believe him 100%.

In 2003, I spoke with the salesperson at the McLaren store in London and was informed that there was one McLaren in Canada at that time and it was in Montreal and owned by someone in the fashion industry. This would seem to confirm most of what was said in this forum about Lawrence Stroll being an owner. Although, I highly doubt that he would be able to get plates and use the car on the road. Canada has come of the strictest laws in the world with regard to vehicle safety and it is virtually impossible to get an exemption.
For example, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo is not available in Canada because it’s front-mounted intercooler will not pass our 8 km/h (5mph) bumper test without damage. (The U.S. test requires cars to withstand and 2.5 mph impact.) The Ford Thunderbird had to be sold in Canada without its U.S. standard fog lights for the same reason.
Kit cars face similar scrutiny. If they are manufactured in Canada you may be able to find a way to get plates, but if you are attempting to import them, Canada Customs will almost certainly block it (even if they are unassembled).
You can get a 12 month exemption from the import rules if you are a student, on a work visa, etc., but these cannot be extended and the vehicle must be exported after this period.
Vehicles can be allowed in for testing purposes or purely for demonstrations, but again a McLaren would not be able to use either of these exemptions to allow for use on the road.
Vehicles older than 15 years may be allowed in. McLaren’s do not yet fit this category.
Lastly, the market here for supercars is extremely small. With a population of only 30 million, penchant for small inexpensive cars (that’s why smart is sold here and not the U.S.) and with inclement weather 5 months of the year it makes for less than ideal conditions for the sales of supercars.
If McLaren was not willing to put the F1 through EPA and DOT for the 280 million strong U.S. market, you can be sure the Canadian market wasn’t worth the investment.
