95 Aurora - Transmission Mounts Problem

I have a 95 Aurora with only 69 thousand miles. My wife hit a deer and now the thing jams into gear. I have been told by a mechanic that this is is because the transmission mounts are bad. I have already replaced the computer but that didn't make a bit of difference. I understand that the mounts can cost over a $1000.00 installed. My God!!!!! I would like anybody else's opinion as to whether this is the problem or is it something else. Thanks in advance.

when you say the transmission jams into gear,is this when going from park into drive/reverse....or do you mean when driving it shifts hard ??? can you see any transmission fluid on the ground or any visable damage when looking underneath ???

Thanks for your reply. The transmission jams into gear when I go from park to drive or reverse. It also has this same behavior when I am driving and it is shifting. I have checked the transmission fluid and it is clean and at the right level with no leaks. Any other ideas?

ummmm, yea you need tranny mounts. They are definatly not cheep, but i believe 1000.00 is a little high. I have a 95 aurora and just did my rear tranny mount at about 32.00, frt one is on its way out and i have priced it at about 400.00 dollars. if you have the abilty to swap the mounts out yourself do it to save on the labor. The parts are expensive seeing as the part the goes in the mount is the rubber bushing, but unfortuantly you cant buy just the rubber bushing you must buy the whole mount. and of course its a factory part only. what I did to my mounts is I replaced them with a 90 dodge spirit mount ($20.00 a piece) which are much cheaper.They fits right in there.

Really!! How did you discover that? What year is your Aurora? How do they perform and how long have you had them on there? Did you put them on yourself or have someone do it? Any information you can give me would be appreciated. Right now my 95 Aurora is just sitting.

before we go any further, are you SURE that your mounts are bad?! Because my trany was acting up(sounded like I needed mounts but turned out to be a freaking sensor in the trany) and was not the mounts,But i replaced them any way because they were worn out. Back to your questions:
1.How I discoverd it was that I was not going to spend 1000.00 on mounts so I went to autozone to try to find a insert for the actual mounts and the best fit was the mount out of a 90 dodge spirt with a V6 engine. I have a 95 aurora and it's doing fine so far. It really didn't cost extra to put them on because I replaced them when I replaced my trany. They should just slide right in the metal mount. good luck!!!

You had to replace the transmission because of a sensor? How much did that set you back? I don't really want to put a lot of money in this car. I have put a total of maybe, 500 miles on it and have already had to replace the brakes and AC compressor. Over a $1000.00 there. I am just about ready to junk it and it has only about 69,000 miles on it. However, the car did have the transmisson replaced, apparently a used one, because of some undercarriage damage. Therefore, I don't know what kind of condition the transmission was in when it was put in. Anyway, was your car slamming into gear like mine is?

Thanks. Read the posts but in your last post you still didn't know what the problem was even after replacing your transmission and a sensor. You seem to know now what the problem was. What sensor turned out to be bad and how much did it cost?

well the sensor was the (Torque Converter Speed Sensor) or the TSS as they call it. So as stated in the other thread, I replaced it and still with the same problem. Parts and labor costs were appox. $250.00 (fluids, sensor, gaskets....etc.) So now the next step is checking the connections from the sensor to the ECM.

I have a similar problem on mine 1995 Aurora with 140k miles.

The problem is when shifting from P to R or P to D. Sometimes (usually after a long trip and letting the car sit over night, or when it's really cold and the car's idle is still high) when I change from P to another gear other than N the car goes BAM. It jolts the entire car like I hit something. I had the rear tranny mount replaced and didn't help. Are there more mounts? When I shift from R to D it's ok all the time, but I can hear a slight "squeek" as the transmission changes it's gear. The car shifts great in all other gears. It's a stock tranny.

Any ideas?

LOL with your Aurora. I am going to leave you an URL to another thread on this forum. In it one guy said he replaced his mounts with those from another car for a lot less. And yes, I think there are 4 mounts. However, there are some other possible problems with your transmission and mine. Here is the link. You will find your transmission problems addressed there.

So, you haven't tracked down the problem yet. This seems to be a common problem among Aurora's. Chris chimed in on this thread with a similar problem. I gave him the same link you gave me. Keep me updated on your progress.
