I have a 2000 2wd. I'm trying to do the front brakes (New rotors and pads). Normally a simple job, but I can't get the caliper bolts off. They used a Torx bolt so I can't just whale on it cause the bit slips out too easily. Tried impact wrench but don't have enough clearance to give it a good whack. I was able to get the caliper mounting bracket bolts off and noticed something yellow on threads...assuming thread lock. Possibly used on caliper bolts too. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yeah man. I haven't changed my front ones yet, but the rear ones..are hard as hell to get aloose. Get a good torx bit and a bigger wrench to get leverage..and be careful not to bust your knuckles. It happens..I found out the hard way.

Too late on the knuckles. Did it on a Saturday, went into office on Monday and everyone asked what the hell happened to my hand. I've done brakes on 5 different cars in my life and never had a problem like this.

hey a old mechanic saying PULL DONT PUSH and keep your face away while you pull with all your might you just might get a knuckle sandwich! done it!!!! dumb ass i am.. anyway ya it's a light lock tight and will come loose use a breaker bar i prefer 1 1/2 - 2 ft bar or put a wrench on the end of your ratchet to extend the leverage... good luck ,,ooooooh if all else fail's i have used a jack before to do the pushing a small floor jack under the ratchet handle, let the jack do the work! work smart boy's not hard , later

Well, 3 Torx bits, pulled tendon and one stripped bolt later got the damn things off. Nice to see that the replacement caliper bolts have a regular head and not a Torx head. Now on to the rear. Thanks for the input, it gave me the confidence to keep at it and get the job done.

A friend of mine decieded to do his brakes, and I guess he did the pull method. Because now we call him "one eyed Scotty". The other eye is just a grayish void. I wish he would put a patch over it, looks disgusting.
