I own the most bagned up Trofeo in the world!

Hey guys. I own a 1990 Trofeo and well.....it runs. I guess it's normal at over 250,000 km to have so many problems with my car . These problems have made me believe that I have the worst coditioned 1990 Trofeo in the world.

-Oldsmobile emblem missing.
-Driver side door knob broken and non functional.
-Both horns rusted through and non functionnal.
-When I bought it, the only lights working on the exterior were the headlights.
-Interior roofing material collapsing and caving in.
- 2 windshield cracks that go from end to end.
-Windshield washer fluid system non funtional.
-Compartment for turning signal lights severly rusted.
-Gas tank leaks gas when filled more then half tank.
-Turning signals stay on after turn has been completed.
-Rear spoiler detaching (due to my stupid friends using it to open the trunk).
-Air conditioner non functional.
-Rear suspension leveler non funtional.
-Fog lights non functional.
-Rear part of the skirt is broken and hanging from the car.
-Steering wheel is cut and the foam is exposed.
-Hood support missing.
-Some seet positioning functions are non funtional.
-Window linings are broken and exposed to the elements.
-Extremely difficult to lift up hood ( due to 1 missing elbow ).

These are the most anoying and I think the most costly problems:
-After leaving the car unused for more than 3 hours ( enough time for the engine to cool down ) at startup, after about 2 or 3 minutes of idleing, the engine will start reving by itselfe. These revings are short and at a frequecy of 2 revs per second.
This "rapid reving" makes the whole car shake tremendously. If I leave the car alone like this for about 3 minutes more, it will rapidly rev itself to about 3000rpm and slowly come down to arround 1000rpm. I asked arround and people have been telling me that it might have something to do with a sensor of some sort.
Also, if I try to drive when the problem occurs, the car stalls shortly after pressing the accelerator.

Another problem is: when driving, if i come to a complete stop and try to accelerate again, the engine will hesitate for about 1 second, and then it will run in a stumble.

Another problem is: when driving at slow speeds ( like in a parking lot ) when I press on the gas, the car does not accelerate untill I have pressed the pedal to the end...and this results in tire spinning.

And there you go. For the 3 last problems, can anyone help me out?

I seriously need my car to be on one of those shows like "Overhauling" or " Pimp my ride"....Jeeze that'll solve so many of my problems.

If anyone has a more bagned up Trofeo then I do...I insist you give me a shout!
And if anyone knows a couple of solutions to my problems, I would love to hear from you!

most of your running and/or idling problems are most certainly due to a filthy fuel injection throttle plate(butterfly valve) . Get a can of Fuel Injection & air intake cleaner (NOT carb. cleaner!!!!!) and remove the big air intake hose that runs from the air filter box to the fuel injection, AT the fuel injection. the plate you will see when you take the hose off is the throttle plate. HOLD the throttle wide open with your hand using the linkage so the plate is all the way open & SOAK the plate & surrounding bore with cleaner. take an old toothbrush(soaked with the cleaner) & scrub the entire inside of the throttle body & plate really good ,(making sure to get top & bottom of plate & bore) while spraying the cleaner liberally. use a rag to catch the cleaner that drips out.Wipe the excess dirty cleaner & crud out with a rag, then respray the entire interior of the throttle body thoroughly.
this will help with some of your idling problems, BUT your IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) MOTOR will still need to be removed & cleaned, and the bore that it goes into cleaned as well.. you can go to a parts store & ask to see the IAC valve to see what it looks like. it`s near mounted with 2 small torx screws on the throttle body, and has an electrical plug going to it.remove this IAC motor , (don`t lose the o-ring), & spray & scrub with the throttle body cleaner until the cone shaped top & spring are completely clean. then clean the bore that the valve came out of, especially the circular ring seat that the "cone" contacts. & flush thoroughly with cleaner. replace IAC valve (dont forget the o-ring),then clean rinse the throttle plate again, as dirt will probably have run down from the IAC valve bore. Now start the car (if it has a mass air flow sensor in the air intake hose, the hose will need to be put back on for the car to run.) It will be hard to start & will run bad at first, but just rev it a little to clear all the cleaner out of the system. If you were able to run the car without replacing the air intake hose, then, with the engine running, spray some more cleaner around the perimeter of the throttle plate in the throttle body, just to make sure all cleaning residue is gone. Replace the air hose AND YOU`RE DONE!

As for most of your electrical problems, check all your fuses thoroughly.
Good Luck!

Whoa, thanks so much SteVB! I'm gonna try that out. Seems like a logical explanation and effective solution to my problem!
