Wiring wipers

I just replaced my 82 malibu steering column with one from an 86 ElCamino, the problem is the wiper plug although the same when simply plugged in will not operate correctly. Both plugs have 5 wires but they are not all the same colors. Can anyone tell me which wires do what function so that I can match them up.
the 82 malibu has
Green, Purple, grey, black , and pink wires
The 86 column has
Green, purple, grey, pink, and white.
I try to match all the colors that do match and it won't work. I've also tried every logical combination, can make some functions work but not all.
