I have a 1995 grand am 2 door and i cant get the dome lights to shut off.. the cluster does not say that the doors are opened either.. i took out the dimmer switch thinking that was the problem but they remained on is there any way i can get this back to normal operation. Also i dont think that the locks are engaging when the shifter is put to drive or any other gear besides park. are these problems interrelated? the chime is also functioning correctly.

sounds like a bad chime module. IF the interior lights don't go off even with the dome override switch turned off, and you've checked the door jam switches, then the chime module is probably the culprit.

Where is the dome override switch?

It is a switch that overrides dome lamps and prevents them from turning on when a door is open. I am pretty sure that the 1995 Grand Am does not have such a switch. It was there for the 1999 Grand Am in new body style though.
