accel.and gas problems with S-10

Got a 98 S-10LS, stock, manual.
The acceleration is slow in first and second gear.
Also, miles per gal have sucked. Just filled my tank up and drove 20 miles and used just under a quarter tank.
I dont have much time, constantly gone with my team, so advice is welcomed.

my first qtr of the tank is messed up like that too, keep track of your trip and when you fill up devide the miles by the amount of gas you put in untill it clicks off by its selfe (this gives you miles per gallon) if its arround 20 your good, so let me know what youve got befoure you beleve every thing the dash tells you

the only downside is you must top off, then run for a while, then top off again, otherwise you will get some messed up numbers (dont mean to patranize you if you got it the first time, but someone asked me the same exact question today and it hit me that this person would go for weeks not keeping track of what was goin in when and then expect it to work fine)
