MSD Ignitions

Anybody know anyhting about MSD ignition systems? I talked to a friend of mine at NAPA and he recommended the 6A or 6AL model. The 6BTM was the top of the line model and it had too many options for me, but what i want to know is 'is it worth the $200 or whatever dollars to buy it for performance/gas mileage?'

Hondas stock systems are great unless your running alot of boost or n2o don't bother with it.

nope not at all.
if you want the better idle and overall hp a normal OEM tune up will do better for less.

NGK plugs and wires new dizzy cap you should be happy

granted if you dont need them that 200 could go into alot better things then that.

I have an MSD SCI and blaster2 coil in my 95 ex. I thought the idle would improve too but it did not. Not that my car idles very rough, it’s just that I would rather not be able to tell that it is on at idle. The MSD didn’t even help cold starts. I have never really monitored my gas mileage and most of the time I don’t drive in a gas conservative manner so I can’t help there. The main reason I bought it is for future upgrades and possibly to lower emissions.
However, a good tune up may be what you require. Don’t forget a new fuel filter and to check timing. If you are still experiencing a really rough idle, check your compression.
If you do go with an MSD keep any kind of pressurized water away from it. I washed my engine compartment and had to send it in for repair the next day. They are not very waterproof (confirmed by many other users’ complaints). Customer service and turnaround was very good though.
All in all, I can’t really tell it is installed and it’s probably not worth the cost and effort if you are going stock or with typical boltons.
