Hey guys,
This is my first post on this board and it seems you guys are quite a productive group. I need help in finding a wiring harness for a 91 chevy blazer 4X4 digital dash, power windows, door locks, automatic transmission. I need the wiring harness from the fuse block on, interior side. The vehicle runs fine, though before I aquired it, some brilliant guy decided he would wrap copper wire around a fuse because his headlight fuse kept blowing. This granchild of Einstien fried the main harness. I have removed the entire dash and it is just a mess, it fried everything back to the fuse block, with the exception of the ECU and it's components. I was lucky enough that it didn't destroy everything, though the only electrical components that do function are the ECU, and the engine management system, everything else is toast. The main harness has melted inside of the loom and all of the wires have fused together. Man, it is really ugly. I need to know if anyone currently has a wiring harness they are willing to sell. I would build my own, though the amount of time required to do so would probably take up the spare time in my life for the next 3 months.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out, and if I have posted this in the wrong area please direct me to an area where it would be more suitable to post a wanted ad.

Thanks,

Dave

Hard luck, man. I feel for you. Had a Toyota Celica that died because of the very same thing. Ate the alternator and battery too - some fool used a foil backed cigarette wrapper to replace a fried fusible link, then covered it neatly in electrical tape. Having never addressed the problem, the whole works caught fire on the side of route 112 in New York. :P

The best bet is to just look around the junk yard. I found my replacement for my Celica there, and spent the better part of a week geting the blown harness, battery and alternator out and re-wired. Not difficult work, but a sight better than rebuilding from scratch like you described.

Thanks for the input, anyone else ever rewired one of these and have any pointers? It looks straight forward, though is there anything I need to look out for, or were there any specific problems that you encountered

There are some holes that you will find difficult to fish the ends of a wire harness through. What I find helpful is to take a wire coat hander and bend it out straight. Tape it with a few turns of electrical tape to the end of the harness you are removing and pull the wire harness back through to the tight spot/interior of the truck where you need it to go, leaving the coat hanger wire dangling out the other end for you to grasp. Tape the new harness up to the coat hanger you left behind and then draw up on it to pull the harness through. If you just fish the harness through some parts of the truck, it will take you forever and a day to find it as it may curl back on itself or go somewhere unseen. Work safely and try to have fun too!
