basically taking AC that is normally blown into the car isnt going to coll you intake charge to anything amazing adding more than 10-20hp. the money spent to do all of the tubing and vualving etc isnt worth it. ideas like this have come up before. such as to use compressed air to cool the intake charge.

alright douche bag. . .
as a rule of thumb, every 10 degrees F drop in temp expect about a 1 HP gain. So lets say you can drop the temp from 90F to 60F, thats a whole 3 HP gain!! OMG! But wait, in order to run the AC you need to take power from the engine, this is usually about 10-15HP. So you still lose 7-12HP. Cold air only makes up a tiny difference in performance with a NA car. . .
Next time try the search button. . .

That was utterly outta line. WTF right do you have to insult people like this? He asked a question and all it needed was a simple response of..
"No, cause the A/C pulls more power than you would gain. Overall, it would be a loss."
People are getting really cocky on these boards lately, IMO. I think mods should tighten down even more.

edit - but i do remember about two months ago we went over this in detail for about 3 pages and im sure its been done many times before that so the search would have been very helpful.

True, but I'm sure you would agree, that's still no reason to be an ass about it. That's not what these forums are about.

a drop of 30 degrees in air temp will gain you 6% in power ... so the hp gain depends on the hp you make ...... but you are right that you will eat up the hp by running the compressor ...... when we have been "working" to hard in the shop we joke about cooling the air in the car in the staging lanes and then turing off the ac and let the motor draw from the cooled comparment but remember we where "working" at the time .......

Wasn't it like the concept for the new Ford Lightnings that used the AC to supposedly add 50 hp to the engine?? Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure that's what it was...Not that I believe any of this...especially from a cough*ford*cough

We'd run a cool can on our fuel line and in the pits pack our engine with dry ice. Did it help, ellifino, but it kept us busy between staging.

Indeed, on the new Lightning, they have a condenser in between the blower and the engine. You flip a little switch, and then at WOT (only, unfortunately), it cools the intake air.
