My husband and I are in the process of replacing the U-Joints on the front drive shaft of my 95 JGC LTD. All was right with world until we discovered there is a cap which goes over the yolk of the joint to hold the grease in. Does anyone know where we can get one of the caps? It doesn't seem to have any identifiable part numbers in any service manual we found or any of the dealerships have found.
We are dead in the water without this part. Anyone have a clue about a part number?

Cap, I'm not sure what you mean. The U-joint comes with the 4 caps that hold the grease and needle bearing inside. To remove them you need a small press or a good size vise to press them out. Put a socket, just larger than the cap itself on one end. Another socket, just a bit smaller than the other cap, directly across from the other one and tighten the vise. This will push out the cap, and joint, but be ware, remove the locking tabs before you do this.

If I understand you right, you are talking about the slip yoke with the internal splines. There is a small cap inside the U-joint yoke facing the u-joint and a dust cap/seal assembly that threads on to the outside of the slip yoke after the two halves of the slip joint are assembled.
Are you missing the small plug or the threaded dust cap??
If you look at http://www2.dana.com/pdf/J300P-3.PDF and can identify the part and drive shaft by dimensions, it might give you a chance. The diagram might give you something else to take to a good dealer too.
