value of car after engine blew

I am trying to get an idea of the value of a nicely modified 1998 Civic EX turbo that just lost its engine (number one connecting rod broke during high speed run and punched hole in block). On Autotrader.com, look for a black Civic EX at zip code 54449 (central Wisconsin) selling for $7995 before the engine blew. Feel free to e-mail me if you have ideas or questions. Thanks.

I want to say about $3k, you'd take a whole lot less of a loss if you were to just throw in a new motor. Parting out your turbo kit will make you a nice chunk of change too.

u also must think if they were running the car that hard, how good of shape can the rest of the car be

Is this your car of one your looking to buy? If it's your car, just buy a junkyard sohc d motor for your car and dump it in there. That should boost the value up and keep you from getting suck a loss. D-series motors are pretty cheap too. Also, once the used motor is put it...DO NOT race it until it's sold...unless you can to have this happen again.

Just curious, who high do you rev the motor RPM wise. Don't rev a D-series motor past 7500 rpm max, even if you have a chipped ecu or rev limiter changed to allow you to do so. A properly tuned D-series can usually be pushed up to around 200WHP or 7500rpm. That pushing it really close to the max though, so the motor better be tuned perfectly and kept up. Once you start going much beyond that, the rod will span or the rold bolts will break, as D-series rods are rather skinny and have weak bolts to boot, as you have found out.

Check www.car-part.com for a local engine search. It won't cost over $600 for just a longblock and no tranny. Swapping the engine won't take much more than a weekend since it'll be the same engine going in, and any numbnut can do it.

there's no way youll get 8k for it. sadly enough, all the money you put into modding your car dedcreases its value, especaily after blowing a rod through your block. only people that pay extra for mods are the people that do mods, and they usually dont have that kind of money. think about parting it out an returning it to stock, then selling it with a nice new, used engine :2cents:

I have decided to sell it as-is, asking $4995, all modifications included and intact. The local foreign car shop will put a used engine in it, including reinstalling the turbo, for $1450, but I need the money and just want to sell it to someone who will do it themselves.
