As im looking into upgrding my stero system, I see a bunch of dofferent brands I want to use. Like If I was to get a sony receiver should I get everything else sony, like subs, amp, etc.? Or would it be safe to use a sony receiver with MTX subs and another brand amp? Im just wondering if I use different brands will a get a shitty sound? or will they all work togeather?

You can mix and match brands with no problems. Most people don't build a system with all the same brand components. Even professional systems are rarely only one brand. The reason is manufacturers that make a great head unit or amp may not even make speakers or if they do they may not be all that good. I have Kenwood Excelon for head unit and amps and Infinity for speakers because I don't like the sound of Kenwood speakers. The best way to choose is to listen to different components.

and personally, i would avoid all sony car audio products like the plauge.
might i recommend clarion?
but mixing and matching is no problem. most people put together a system with nothing that goes together. im currently using JL audio and clarion.

I third that, Sony gear is Crap. Personally I prefer Panasonic Gear then Clarion. Alpine , for me anyways, rates down next to Sony next to Shrubwood errr I mean Kenwood.

yeah, those panasonic head units are great. my good friend and i always argue clarion (on my third unit) vs. panasonic (on his second) but they are both really good.

Dudes..whats so bad with Sony? I've had 3 different head units from sony (this is in 3 diff vehicles) and they've been nothing but awsome. One even worked after I got my old ford stuck and it sat underwater for 2 days...I dont get it?? Being a Sony dealer and all, I'm stickin up for my product!! Even though they have made shit in the past, check out some of the newer models...they've changed alotta stuff.

my roommate: blew xplod speakers the first day. got a new set under warranty, blew those that week.
head units: multiple friends have had them just crap out. nothing. blank screen, gone. right outside the warranty...
lots of trouble reading burned cds. i just don't trust the brand, i ahve been close to way too many bad experiences, and obviously so have some others.

Hmm...well, I still beg to differ. I've had absolutely not 1 problem from any Sony product I've ever owned. I also don't buy the cheap sony, ya gotta spend money to get good products. You could buy a $100 Clarion, and a $100 Sony and they'll both perform like... cheap $100 equipment.
Thats just my opinion. But opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one, some are just bigger than others

Now that I think about it, I rembere a friend of mine in high school who had a Sony x-plode radio, that thing got terrible radio reception and dident play burnt cd's. But other than that it looked awesome.

i've always had trouble with sony cd decks skipping way too easy. especially with burnt CDs. that my only gripe though. never had any other sony equipment.
but of all the CD players i've had, my fave is Kenwood by far. Clarion and some of the Pioneers are nice too.
JVCs are another brand i'd stay away from though. i've had to return one recently just because the front speaker amp quit out of nowhere. and my friend's JVC was always doing strange things. they seem to be of very poor quality.
