Has anyone tried to add on a remote start unit that can be used with factory transmitters? If so, how hard is it?

There is a factory remote start system available from the dealerships. There aren't any aftermarket systems I'm aware of that work with the factory transmitters.

heads up get the factory remote start. have the dealership install it and your covered completly. i just had mine done and its awesome. the range is far better than expected, i would even argue that it reaches longer than most after market remote starters. plus you get the factory options...window roll down, turn on the rear defroster, door locks, nd the warenty that is on the lincoln comp system which will show up at all linc comp system hookups which makes maintnaince no issue around the us with lincoln dealers

A friend of mine owns a car stereo shop. He said he installed a remote start once on an LS and it was the only car they have ever had to remove the rs from. It would always drain the battery. He never found out why....

I have a 2000 Lincoln LS and have a remote start on it with no problems. I install remote starts at my shop and have no problems doing them if you have any question just let me know.

Yeah, I've done plenty of them with no problems. Of course I sell expensive ones from DEI. All of DEI's remote starters can be set to be used with their remotes or OEM remotes. You can get either something like the Valet 561r which comes with one remote, 600' of range, and one year warranty or the Python twin that has 1/4mile range and lifetime warranty.
I also wholesale a line from DEI to dealerships called Automate. It is the same as the Python but is only availible through dealers. Personally, I would not buy the one from either the web link or dealer. That's a lower end CodeAlarm unit. Also, remember if range is a concern, the aftermarket remotes are the way to go.

I had a RS put in by a supposedly reputable EOM vendor and the next morning my car was dead (of course it didnt help there was 5 inches of snow that night to really get me fuming)..
Took it to the dealer who uses these folks and they worked on it for 5 days before getting it fixed.. The result was that it had to be connected to the door locks, not to the ignition module.. THe RS always has some draw on it and it was draining the battery..
Now I love it..
