Some low life recently broke into my Chevy and took my stereo system. They broke the trunk lock and I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the lock mechanism all together and possibly bondo the hole. I assume the only means to open the trunck would be through the glove compartment box switch. How do I go about making this cosmetic change to my violated Chevy?

Grind the paint off around the area.

Cut a small piece of sheet metal to fit into the hole.

Weld it in place with a series of tack welds until all the gaps are filled.

grind it smooth.

repeat welding steps if need to fill hole.

grind it again.

skim layer of bondo.

sand and paint.

Thanks for the info. I plan to start working on the car as soon as this weekend.

You may want to rig up an emergency release cable on the off chance the switch, wiring, or release motor quits.

Doesn't have to be elaborate, in fact, it should be pretty easy.

Good idea there Tommy. The guys with the shaved door handles and poppers do that too. I forgot about.

Thanks for the great ideas guys. Any suggestions as to how to rig up a plan B in case the trunk wont open from the interior?

Well the guys with the shaved door handles, just use a piece of small diameter stainless steel cable. They run it through the door with the wiring and out to a place under the fender. I guess I would do the same but keep it hidden behind the license place frame....
