Hi I am new to the site looks great.I have a 87 ranger that will not start now was at the pit playing and hit some water (a puddel but going fast)then the truck quit I started it up drove abut 200 feet to my buddies shut it of and that was it no go now.So I have fire and I have fuel right to the presure valve on the rail under the hood its like the injecters are not working or somthing ....the truck will run if I prime it then it quits when it burns all the primer and like I said I have lots of fuel pressure right up to the rail if I push the pressure valve fuel will hit the hood so I don't think the pump is weak.Someone said the injecters mind think the truck is flooded and shut themselfs down can anyone help me or tell me what I can try next I do not want to spend alot of money as I only paid 800$ for the truck for a winter rig.thanks

Sorry man, I have no idea, do you hear your fuel pumps even come on? I heard you can hear if your fuel injectors are working by placing the flat end of the screw driver on the fuel injector and the other end against your ear. Is the check engine light coming on? I think you're going to need to test for fault codes...

Yeh man pump is workin its getting gas right up to the rail with lots of pressure also has good spark and if I poor gas in the throttel body it will run untill it burns that gas then quits again I really think my injecters are the issue it as thow they will not let the gas into the motor ...not sure man the trucks way out in the country and I don't want to have to tow it.Its weird

does anyone no where the computer is located on my 87 ranger?going to try changing that and map sensor is on the fire wall right?going to try changing that to any info would be great guys as this truck is drivin me nuts and its to cold out to ride my bike........

Passenger side, in side the cab. You gotta take the side piece off under the dash, and right there it is. I wish I had an idea man, but that's just weird. The MAP is the Manifold Absolute Pressure Senser. It checks the engine if it's under load or not, and adjusts the air fuel mixture accordingly. Not sure if that's your problem... I'd scan the codes, only logical approach to the problem. Don't throw parts at it, you'll waste your money.

yeh I no man don't want to throw parts at eaither just gonna try theses last couple of things and thats it.Its just junk yard parts anyways so if it still will not go then I can take the parts back..If this don't work then I will take it somwhere I guess.See I don't no how to read the codes and even if I did read them the # would mean nothing to me right now I wish I had a carb instead of fuel injection..can a person rent a code tester or do you have to get that done at a shop?anyway of to the junkyard I go thanks alot for the info on the computer location as I did not no where the hell it was I will be in touch again man thanks

Ah shit man, someone is hosing you and not telling you stuff.. It can be done with an analog volt meter.. Look on google for testing the ECC IV computer. It will give you an extremely simple wiring diagram, and how to hook it up to the self test. It should also have a list of codes. The meter will sweep a number.. You'll get something like...

1.....1.1...1.1.....1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1...1.1.1.1.1. 1.....1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1...1.1.1.1.1.1.....
(1 = sweep (12 volts or so..) . = delay)

This is a KOEO test result for my Ranger. It's telling me that I have a code 11 and a code 96. I forget what the first sweep means, you'll just have to read into it.

11 = System Pass
96 = Fuel Pump Monitor Missing

I did a MAF conversion to my Ranger and the 88 doesn't have the Fuel Pump monitor like the 1990 does and that's why I am getting a 96.
