ok i am having a big problem, my gsr is shaking and vibrating when i give it gas and it really shakes before i switch gears, and between 80 and 140 it gets kind of violent, now im almost certain that its my cv joint because i had the passenger side one replaced after i hit a skunk and it knocked the boot off of it, so im thinking that its the driver side one that is screwed up but i just want to be safe and get some one elses input, so please help me.... am i right??

get your alignment checked ASAP.

Incorrect alignments wont cause a vibration unless its completely wacked. The first thing I would do is a wheel balance & tire rotation. If it's still there after that you could have a bad tire, bent wheel, bad suspension bushing, worn CV joint. If the vibration starts coming from the rear you know it's a tire or wheel because those were rotated.

Have you physically looked under your car or are you just guessing as to what the problem is? Jack the car up and inspect all the suspension and driveline components, then try to determine the problem. Also if your car is violently shaking why are you driving between 80 and 140 mph?

okay, i had my tires and rims rotated and balenced, they where brand new so i dont think its a warped rim , i think its the cv joint because its a little loose and that means its shot and it was doing the exact same thing on the passenger side before i got the passenger cv joint replaced, the vibrated is on the driver side and it only happens after driving for a little while. and i have only drove up to 140 once and that was because it was on a drag strip and it didnt start doing it untill then, i think when i let this jack ass drive my car right before that, he screwed it up because he did a huge burnout with it and since the drivers side cvjoint was old it probably screwed it up, now i know not to lend my car out, a lesson well learned, any ways thanks for the input everybody, it helped!!

ok, don't lie. your car was not going 140 on a drag strip. but anyways, yes check the cv joint. honda cv joints are kind of a weak point

Pretty much have it covered.

check your ball joints too while your at it. I had a mishap with it a few months ago. After a months worth of shaking, the lower balljoint finally popped out of place and i had a dented fender, hood, sideskirt, broken axle, and clutch not disengaging. =(

Dont ask how it happened =/

lol... there are supposed to be cotter pins in those castle nuts to stop that from happening... that sucks man

BullShifter

Cotter pin aint stopping a ball joint or tie rod from letting go. There's a perfect reason why you should replace them ASAP. If it was a tie rod it could have been a lot more than a dented fender, you lose total steering control of the side that breaks. At 60mph it could end up with fatal results.

Cotter pins only keep the nuts from backing off.

yeah that was what i was getting at, the nuts backing off. i didnt even think about the actual ball joint breaking. i figured he just meant the nut shook loose or something. oops

I was only at 5-10 mph when it happened. Luckily, I was only 10 houses down from my house. I knew it was going to go sooner or later. Me and some neighbors tried to push it back to the house, but it was a funny and loud sight to see. So, after an 30 mins of trying to push it down 10 houses, we only made it through two. Had to call the tow truck for the additional 8 houses down.

okay i found the problem, it was my outer tie rod ends and upper ball joints they where shot and its pretty damn expensive to replace so ill be having fun getting that fixed. oh yeah miata racer (the guy with the red civic) look at the thread that is titled (......)

Anyone please?? :banghead: I am so losing my mind right now, that I would sell my car, even though I don't want to do that! Just went a shop today, they rebalanced all four tires free of charge because I was there twice last week and still vibrates.

everything is stock, except: tires and rims.
I do plan to upgrade very soon if i get to fix this problem (suspention, power bar, exaust system, bumpers, side skirts etc...) dang!

hey I got the same problem but it just started last week , I jacked up the front and on the drivers side I pushed my wheel in toward the motor and pulled back out toward me real fast and it had alotta slop in it..I went to the passengers side and did it but there was no slop at all, so it meant two things wheel or axle bearing, after I pulled the hub away from the axle I checked the axle like I did the wheels and it was tight, so it is my wheel bearing, but I have to take the new bearing to a machine shop to have it pressed in to replace the old bearing because local parts stores don't sell the whole hub assembly...I havn't yet to make this a fact that that is whats wrong but what else is there I have checked everything. When I give my car gas or just go like 30-60 it does it.. Just check it out and see if you got alotta slop in your wheels...

It could be many differnt things such as:

Upper strut mounts
Strut
Spring
Control arm bushing
Tie rod
Ball joint
Wheel bearing
Warped rotors
Worn brake pads
Frozen or bad brake caliper
Bent wheel
Steering rack
Slipped belt or cupped tire
CV joint worn
Axle not balanced correctly

The easiest way to check the front end is jack it up and support, not under the wheels. Grab each tire and shake it in all direction, if you fell any play then a further inspection is needed. You should be able to see & hear the part thats bad. It's hard to pinpoint your problem without having the car here. That's something you need to see & feel.

that what I told him to do.. You gotta get down and dirty.. If not you can pay a technician $500 or more to tell ya what the problem is without even fixing it...

holly cow man! ive gone to all those shops including honda (dealer) and they could not tell me that? how is that possible, i dont know much about that stuff, i mean if the problem is one of those parts that both of you listed, how am i gonna find which is messed up? on the top of all that i have an extended warranty with honda that i PAY for it, but honda wont touch my wheels the way they are, i mean, i could put my stock wheels back and take it back, but i am so at that point that i dont think i would do that if you know what i mean. omg! :uhoh: :swear:
