rear wheel bearings

Help! Last year had Both rear wheel bearings replaced. lasted for a approx 3 months then took back and had redone.
About 2 months ago same problem, terrible loud noise again appeared.
Took to local shop replaced both sides (rear wheel bearings)
Lasted maybe one month started making that horrible sound again.
The last week replaced AGAIN. They said the spindles are ok.
Sooooooooooooo what in the @#$% is going on. Any suggestions.
I am out of $$$

sounds like something is bent or warped. i would go get a used drum with bearings at a wrecking yard, shouldn't be more than $20 a side with the bearings, just slap them on with the new drum and see how they work. also the take a high temp grease, maybe shops aren't using right grease

It may be that your drums are rusted and rubing the backing plate. That makes a hell of a noise.
I had the same on mine and though bearings, but they looked great so I repacked them.
I really don't see how those bearing could go bad if you keep them well greased.

My 95 had bad bearings in the left rear when I bought it. I went to the junk yard (U-Wrench-It) and pulled 2 drums with bearings for $11 each. I do not know why you keep having bearing trouble but I would suspect lack of proper lubrication. Make sure they are using a high temp grease and not a chassis grease. They my not even be greasing them at all. Look to see if the bearings are rusty.

I went through a lot of rear bearings on my '94 Metro. The Chilton's manual had two very different torque specifications for the rear axle nut in different locations in the manual. I no longer have the car or manual, but it was something like 200 N-m (146 ft-lbs) compared with 70 N-m. When I used the higher spec I didn't seem to have the problems. Note that garages will regularly remove the nut to check the brakes and just reinstall the same nut (the manuals recommend that the keyed nut be replaced each time) to the previous keyed position (approximately) without checking the torque.

The bearings cost very little, but it's a pain to have to keep replacing them.
