Get CAI, I have a 2004 V6 Gt Eclipse and just put a CAI on and it is off the hook. I honestly think I gained 15+ horespower, main reason is the old air intake had a bunch of califorinia emissions crap. Just be careful about big water puddles, make sure you get a bipass valve for it. Ram air is not good on V6 Gt 2000+

I am thinking about buying an injen cold air intake. Is a splash guard or heat shield a good investment of waste of money. BTW most people dynoed there injen cai for bout 11 whp

I can tell you right now that you did not gain 15+ horsepower with only a CAI. You won't even get 10 with most of them. i don't know what kind you have, but on AEM's website, the GT they ran w/ a CAI only gained 9.5 horses. And that is on the manufacturer's website. they'll probably beef up the numbers just to make their product look better. intakes do not give you that much horsepower. usually 5-7 or so. the main advantage to them is the increased throttle response. you can't just come on here and start telling everyone that "my butt dyno tells me i gained 15+ whp w/ my new CAI". get real.

in response to the original question, a ram air sits on top of the engine bay while a cold air goes down through it and sits about the pavement behind the front fender. it is a possibility to suck up water through a CAI, but not likely. if you were really worried about it, you could get a bypass filter, which will run you in between $40-$50. the downside to this is that the bypass valve is basically just an inch of filter, making it more difficult for air to get in, and therefore, you will lose most of the horsepower you'd be gaining from putting the intake on in the first place. i would personally go with a ram air. cheaper, and you will not get much more power out of a CAI despite what some people will tell you.

foolish people wasting money on CAI and "ram air."
CAI is for ricer hondas coupled with an annoyingly loud trash can exhaust. you wont even notice the difference with cai or ram air anyways. just loudness. Mitsubishis are serious cars, therefore requiring serious mods. Save your money for a turbo system. or atleast spend that money on good oil and fuel. but if you opt to do niether, maybe you know some honeys at school to spend your money on. if you have any game, you'll score with them before you score at the track or street against other cars with your cai and ram air.
15 hp my white ass, even 11 is out of line,like wars said- 5-7 hp, if your lucky. reality- 3-4 hp if even that.

Personally, I don't think it matters what intake you get, any open element filter will do, and you will gain 3-5hp realistically. Some filters are minimally better than others at filtration, but as far as hp, all are the same. Do yourself a favor, buy a $30 intake off ebay, rather than buying some name brand for $200. They are the same, only difference being the $170 dollars you would spend on the sticker with the company's name on it.

are you talking about a ram air induction hood... or a short ram intake? I've got the short ram intake in my 01 gs and i f-ing love it. it sounds mean too. i picked it up from autobacs off ebay. i ssume it would fit right, but i have a 1" throttle body spacer so that really moves things. as far as the element goes goet a K&N cone from your local motorcycle shop. their usually less than NAPA or store alike.
