Whats the going rate for a crate JDM H22A1 from like a 93-94 Prelude? I wanna swap out the trash in a 93 Accord and put that in there. Lookin for hopefully under 30,000 miles.

Anyone got a clue? (I'm lookin for everything with the engine too, not just the block.)

I think it's between $2000 and $3000, depending on the shipping price, sometimes maybe even a little more, depending on where you get it. It also depends if you want to get the JDM transmission with the LSD or not, that will add a few dollars as well.

I'm not sure that Crate makes an H22 motor. I've only seen B-series Crate motors before. And if they did it would be expensive and only come with the long block.

if by "crate" you mean full engine with internals, they most definitely do sell them, usually gauranteed to have under 40K miles or less on them. I know totaljdm.com sells them, and I think the price was around $3500, but you can do much better than that. I remember doing a search for "JDM h22a engine specs" on google and getting a bunch of sites that had them, try that out.

I mean the company Crate that turns stock blocks into race motors with internal work. But now I'm unclear if that's what the original thread started was refering to. I've never heard of any other type of engine refered to as "crate", other than an engine from that specific company. And those engines have 0 miles on them, unless you buy them used (which usually means they have been beat on). But if he's looking for just a regular everyday kind of h22a motor swap then there are lot of sites that sell them for around $2200-2500. www.hmotorsonline.com (http://www.hmotorsonline.com) www.passwordjdm.com (http://www.passwordjdm.com) and like stated above www.totaljdm.com (http://www.totaljdm.com) (they sell them for $2500 there).

JDM is just H22A not H22A1. H22A1 is 4th gen usdm vtec, H22A4 is 5th gen usdm vtec and H22A (no number at the end of it) is JDM. If you see someone selling h22a1 and saying it is JDM make sure youre not getting ripped.

I got my h22a4 out of a 2k1 lude for $2500 and this was complete engine swap; engine, all wiring, transmission, everything and only had 5k miles on it. But i did get a hell of a deal.

JDM engines go usually for $1500 for just the motor and throw in another $1000 to $1200 for transmission and all accessories. These engines usually are guaranteed to have 30k to 70k miles on them. You wont know for sure unless you buy a complete jdm front clip.

By crate I meant full engine with internals, mounts blah blah blah...not the company Crate, even though I know how good they are. My old man bought a beastly 454 for his Chevelle from them a couple years back.

I think what I meant was just H22A JDM, not H22A1 (I been doing some reading).

So I shold be in the ballpark of $2,500 - $3,500 for under 30,000 miles?

And how hard is the swap?

i havent had any experience w/ dropping them in accords so if it just bolt right up you'll have to buy motor mounts...you can find those pretty easily. You'll need the new ecu which if you buy the complete swap then the ecu will come w/ it. There are 3 wires you have to run for the vtec to start engaging, vtec selenoid wire from the vtec selenoid to the ecu, a ground wire to the block, and a oil pressure switch wire from the pressure switch to the ecu. Search around and find the pinout guide for the prelude ecu and you should be good to go.

Look at this post: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t211027.html

That will show you what you need and shows pictures so you know what youre looking for. Also has a pinout guide. Good luck w/ swap.

A crate motor is different than what you are looking for. A crate motor is a brand new motor, with brand new internals, etc, proffesionally built by a company. They come in a "crate" brand new completely, rated at a certain HP level. A the only 2 crate motors I know of for a Honda are B18's and B20's, and both cost an assload (like $10K).

What you are looking for is a full-H22 swap, low-mileage, for your vehicle.

Here are few sites for these. The price will depend on which H22 you get, does it come with an LSD tranny or not, etc. You have a 93 Honda, so it's OBD-I. You'll want a 92-95 H22 then, sense they are OBD-I also. If you go with a 96+ H22, you'll need to backdate the electronics to an OBD-I ecu.

I just bought an H22A1 for $2200, and mine had 33K miles on it. It was a complete swap, which included a 5-speed tranny, wire harness, ECU, etc. I picked it up from www.jdm-motor-engines.com. They were very helpful throughout the whole transaction.

Hope this helps,
