1997 TA starting problems

I am having problems with my TA. It drove ust fine when I parked it a couple of weeks ago, now it will crank all day but won't start. The SES light came on and was for multiple cylinder misfires, but was an intermittent issue, and would always start. It was starting to backfire and die occasionally, just prior to me parking it, but I never thought anything of it.

The fuel filter has been replaced already ( I thought that it may have been clogged, since the engine would sometimes surge) but that didn't see to do anything.

Any one have an idea as to what it may be????

thanks

Sounds like ignition issue to me. Have you checked spark plu g wires?. and how many miles do you have on the motor (could be a fuel injector issue). Also welcome to the forum..

Well, for once I can help someone out.

Okay, this is the deal, I JUST had this happen to me...and guess what?
Its your injectors. Mine had a random misfire code all over the place and I changed out plugs and wires but still had the code.
Then one night, I cleaned the air filter and MAF in hopes of something would go away. I didn't crank it back up until the next morning.
When I did...the thing was hard as nuts to crank.
I finally got it going and it started pouring white/grey smoke like crazy!
It was runnin really really bad!
Dude, I'm so sick of my car. I'm going to sell it.
I
f anyone is interested its a 96 Trans Am
Black with graphite leather, auto  , 5.7 LT1, 57,200 miles.

I am just so pissed at it because I've replaced the opti, all plugs and wires from the stock, rebuilt the freak'n auto tranny, and I still have to replace the other injectors but I'm not going to waste anymore time into it. Its a PITA!!
I use to love Firebirds, not anymore!

Ya, so check your injectors before your able to blow air through one. I filled up a full tank of gas one time and only got 57 miles.

Believe me...I'm so freak'n pissed that no one could help me with this problem, the same one your talking about, so get'em checked out! Replace your injectors! If you want to keep the car that is.
Oh, and because it was hard to crank up, I had to replace a cracked starter too.
Everyone who blames your problem on wires and plugs needs to be shot. :loser:
