My son's Cavalier stalled on the way home. It wouldn't start again. He was able to get it started within an hour. It will not start again. We tried jumper cables, putting starter spray in the intake manifold. The fuel pump seems to be working. One of the spark plugs had dried oil on it. My son replaced it. When the key is turned on it will crank and crank but will not turn over. He also tested the spark from one of the wires. It sparked. We cant afford to take to a garage and no other vehicle to use. Any suggestions. Thank you.

Will it even turn over...does he have oil in it? That would be really bad, and would have seized the engine. You may think Im dumb for asking...but you'd be surprised!!! Does it seem like an electrical problem, or mechanical? Like, do any of the lights work at all? What year and model does he have...that may help. 2.2L, 2.3, or 2.4L. Or is it pre-95? Need more details.

You may want to check fuel pressure You can get a haynes manual at the local Autozone etc. it will walk you through it and i think they will loan you the guage

so did your son replace the fuel pump himself as well? Have you checked your fuel injectors? I know people have had this problem...If you have dried oil on one of the plugs, you may have a faulty injector as well. (too rich of a fuel mixture getting in the cylinder) Also, like the others mentioned...check the fuel pressure. It definately sounds like a fuel-related problem. It could be an even worse problem like fuel not getting to the injectors properly. (fuel rail amongst other things) Let me know what you come up with! Good Luck.

It is a 2.2 engine.1996 cavalier. The oil is fine and all lights work. We also checked the fuse for fuel pump. My son did change the fuel filter about 7-8 months ago. We will do some more checking today. Thank you for all the responces.
