Standing up against Dodges Intrepids

I cannot believe how many people are having problems just like I with the Dodge Intrepid. I have a 2001, I still owe on it for 3 more years! And the engine blew at 62,000 miles. I know another persons who went at 24,000. There have been over 600 complaints about this car. Enough is enough. I am starting a petition trying to get people to stand up and say we have had enough! I'm planning on taking them straight to Dodge and see if they will do something to fix this problem and hopefully help everyone who is in the same situation I am in. So if you would like to write a letter and voice your complaint please do so. You cand send them to me at [email protected] Maybe together we can resolve this problem.

the problem is that most people who have had problems with their engine (usually the 2.7L) is that they don't do the proper maintmence. If you do you regular oil changes, and take good care of it theres no reason why it won't last to 100K miles. There have been many organizers of class action suits, none of them ever go anywhere. search the web for 2.7L Lawsuit, there are a few running already.

I'm not trying to say anything against your idea, if i had a 2.7L blow on me i'd be right there with you. Chrysler should give something back to owners who have had this problem. from what i understand a 2.7L rebuild can cost as much as $6000

There is a lawyer planning a class action lawsuit against chrysler after he gets clients because of the 2.7 engine.2.7 engines do have problems with sludge build up.An used engine goes for $2,000 to $2,500 If you can find one.I do not remember the lawyers name

When you send the complaints to dodge you need to send them to the Daimler-Chrysler headquaters backeast. They have the main say, not dodge, its just a sub group. I think 600 complaints will get laughed off the table. Hopefully you can get some more people to join you in your fight. You might get a better response if you sent your complaints to the NHSTA because they actually deal with recalls, unless a company does it voluntarily. Personally my intrepid is a great one. I have had no major problems, its a 97 3.5L ES with 105,000 miles on it. Good luck in your quest.

LHSDriver01 is right...if the proper maintenence and care is given to your engine, there is no reason that it should last well over 100k miles. What can you do to an engine to have it blow at 24k miles or even 62k miles?

Our '00 Intrepid has just over 60k miles on its 2.7L engine and hasn't had a single problem since we bought it new in 7/2000. Aside from the '87 Camry that got traded away a year ago, this has been the least problematic car we've owned.

But anyways, good luck with your lawsuit and sorry to hear about your engine troubles.

Chrysler engines and transmissions do not hold up that well especially the 2.7 motor. Maintenence has very little to do with it. I inspect used cars for a living so I see a lot of these cars. If you have one of these cars with no problems you are in the minority or you have problems and just have not realized it.

I had my '98 2.7l Intrepid for a little over a year when I experienced my first problem. My check engine light came on, a tapping noise started coming from under the hood and the car acted like it was going to die while going down the highway. I took it back to the dealership (Lithia Dodge, Medford, OR) and was told it was a bad crank case sensor. Since I had purchased lifetime oil changes when I bought the car, I also had them perform my next 3000 mile oil change while it was in the shop. I didn't even make it the 3 months/3000 miles to the next oil change before the knocking noise started. I again took it to the dealer, thinking that they knew Dodges better than anyone and was told my oil pump went out preventing oil from being pumped into the engine, causing a piston in my engine to litterally shatter. After attempting to negotiate a solution with the Lithia Dodge, I was basically told that even though they had worked on the car 2 months earlier, they were not going to take the blame and since they had not documented my complaint about the "tapping" noise, that problem had nothing to do with what had happened. Since I only had a 90 day guarantee I would have to pay $5000+ to replace it. I still owed $6000 on my car, I found my own mechanic and had a rebuilt 2.7l engine installed costing me $3500. The car had never ran better, and I felt that it was just a lemon. Now it would be a great car. I went about a month before I lost all power while I was by myself on a deserted highway, in mid-July. Black smoke pouring out of the exhust, first thing I checked was the oil. After 5 hours I finally made it home, and had the car towed in the next day. Since the engine wasn't even 30 days old, I got a free replacement. Good thing about junk yards is that you can usually get a better price. Bad part about purchasing an engine from a junk yard is that the mecanic who installed it wasn't liable and would not install a second for free. I have 2 children and was without a car for 6 monthscombined and am out a total of $5000. Faithfully paying full coverage insurance and still making my monthy car payment of $300.
Dodge needs to make this right with consumers. Leagally I don't see how they can get away with it!! Question is......... What do we do now?
