New Control Arm?

My 95 Eclipse RS control arm broke yesterday. From what the tow guy said when he picked up my wifes car is that it fell from the bushing and ripped the axle from the tranny. The "mechanic" at the tow shop said that i need a new control arm and axle. (1) Is it possible to get a new bushing and use the same control arm (2) Assuming the axle was torn from the tranny, is there some sort of seal that holds the axle to the transmission, does it bolt up...? The axle doesn't appear to be damaged so do i still need a new one?

control arms are a factory recall. Take it to the dealer for the control arm, it will be free. As for the Axle... good luck, hopefully it's not broken.

Only the lower lateral link is recalled. The compression arm, front upper arm, rear trailing arm, rear lower, rear upper, are not recalled ;) Which control arm is in question?

The axle may be fine and just need a new boot. Mechanics are lazy and will just replace the whole damn axle to save time. A boot is about 6 bucks for a cheap POS, or ~30 for a good one.

Just to add to what Kevin said, the axles aren't bolted into the tranny, they are just held in there with snap rings. To properly remove them you just delecately "rip" them out. You should probably be able to keep the axle, just take a look at the oil seal for the axle in the tranny and make sure it isn't damaged, leaky transmissions are no fun :thumbsdow
