1997 Blazer starting problems

I have a 1997 Blazer with intermittent starting problems. When the key is turned on the lights come on and the fuel pump runs. Turning the key to the start position causes the DRL's to go out and there is a single click of a switch closing...(I dont think its the starter solenoid) but the starter does not engage...no sound at all from the starter. Sometimes moving the key back to the run position and then back to Start will eventually get the starter to engage.
Initially I replaced the battery...right after the new battery went in I still had the same problem.....After several turns of the key the starter engaged and I drove the car for a while to make sure the battery was good and charged.... and I had no problems with it for about a month. Now the same problem is back. I pulled the lower dash panel off tonight and wiggled the harnesses underneath and after a few good wiggles the problem seems to have gone away again.... Should I just go straight to ignition harness replacement or are there any other suggestions?

My 97 had the same prob along with other electrical malfunctions. I replace the ignition switch wich solved my electrical problems but my non engaging starter problem remains. It happens only ocasionally. Ive been reading in a GM blazer manual that there is a starter relay on the cowl underneath the hood and this might be the problem. If I find out for sure Ill let you know. Good Luck Flagship202

check your starter/solenoid connections, I had the same problems-my terminals were corroded. -Easy fix

Do like BlazerLT says, search for ignition switch in this forum. Many problems with ignition switches in these models, specifically with the Pink wire in the ignition switch/block. If you wiggle it and your problem goes away, you might as well start shopping for a new switch.
