Progress: Ferrari 348 Zagato
Veyron

I'm making this from an old Mini Exotics resin transkit, the roof was warped and the body was rough in several areas so I decided to take the good parts an attach them to a good straight body.
Zagato is a design house which has designed bodies and/or modifications for several marques over the years, 12 of these cars were made but I've only seen pics of two of them, one red like the one I'm doing and a yellow one which had a different design between the head lights.
The car isn't particularly attractive but will definitley make a unique model should be fun to build. I will use either an Italeri or Hasegawa engine/chassis. The double humped roof is a trademark of Zagato.

Here is what is left of the resin body.

Besides the warped roof the resin body was mastered with the tail light panel at too vertical of an angle so I cut it loose and positioned it correctly. I will remove the molded in screen and cavallino between the tail lights to replace with real screen. The resin wheels were way too small like 14" and are suppose to be 17" so I had these Aoshima ones that will be just fine.

I have made the hood piece which forms the NACA type scoops and on this car the indention between the stock head lights is filled to their level. Also filled the grill and light areas on the front end and will drill holes for those four lights.
http://infinite1der.org/~dino/348z3.jpg
Will have to drill a hole for the fueal filler and cut the gills in the rear flanks.
http://infinite1der.org/~dino/348z4.jpg
I pressed the resin bodies roof into modeling clay, baked it to harden it in order to make a mold for the roof humps. Then I spread some Evercoat into the mold, let it harden and peeled the two humps out and glued them on the roof. Not much work really and it gives me a good start on them.

Well, those are the beginnings of what won't be a perfect replica but it will be close.

Very interesting project, didnīt even know that this car existed. One question though: Are you finished with your Ferrari 288 GTO? Are there some pictures of the finished car on the forum??

Just like you said, it ain't as beautifull as the regular 348, but it's definitely a unique model. Nice entry in the contest maybe? :d You're building all kinds of unique cars lately, aren't you?

I think the only ugly thing about it is those square lights on the front either side of the number plate. They make it look a bit like a cheapo kit car.
Great looking progress. Very impressive.

You said a mouthful! :eek7: :grinyes:
But hey, I do like the roof humps and the body sides and rear fender louvers! The rest... :disappoin , like it's a Fiero pretending to be a Ferrari.
It's Jota-riffic! :evillol:
Your model will look better than the real car. :)

Looks great!
Makes me glad I did'nt pay a bunch for that trans-kit.
What's your base body? (Fujimi Blackstar?)
That also reminds me that I'm way behind on 3 series Ferrari's (about 20 years worth) lol.
:p

Yeah, it's the Blackstar body.
The transkit was a cheaper one, like $35 or something back in 1994.

Very cool and unique 348.
I like the 355-ish side coves much better than the 348's Testarossa like slots.
You're turning out some truly unique cars lately.

Looks like a challenging project. I'm sure the end result will be inspiring.
I just don't see why anyone (Zagato) would mess with Ferrari's design? Never seen this car before, but I prefer the Ferrari design.

Zagato is hit-or-miss. They seem much more successful when working on an Aston Martin vs. a Ferrari. When they do an Aston, it looks like it could have come from Aston...whereas it's supremely obvious this would have never come from Ferrari/Pininfarina. Koenig seemed like a better tuner of Ferraris.
