Ever since I swapped a b16a into my 91 CRX I have never hit vtec in 5th gear, seldom in 4th, and finally in any gear just starting last week. I had code 17 (VSS) off and on and whenever I got it I'd check to make sure the cable was seated and the clip hadn't fallen off...never was the case. Finally decided to change the cable and I now have no problem hitting vtec in every gear.
The old cable didn't have any kinks or breaks, it spun freely...if anything, its was wee bit short but still fit. The replacement cable I used is from a 91 Integra LS which is about 2 inches longer than the CRX one and cost me $28 at the dealer.
Only reason why I'm posting this is because I searched my ass off trying to find the make/model/year for the replacement and when I did find it the info seemed alittle sketchy like , "I think its..." or "It should be..."
