Hi there, I just bought a 04 Silverado and noises really piss me off. The noise that really gets to me is the clunking coming from my steering. When I make a turn either way I hear and feel a real bad clunk, anyone else have any similar or different problems?, and if so what had to be done. This is my first Chevy Truck, I've wanted one for a while because I keep hearing how great they are, and so far I'm not impressed.

The problem is your steering shaft. Go to your dealership and tell them to order you one. They may try to just put in a lube kit but that is only temporary. There is about a 90 day backorder on the shafts right now so be patient. And yes, warranty will cover this.

My '04 was giving me that same problem, except that it was extremely minor. Last time I took it in for an oil change, I asked the service manager to have it checked out. Turns out it wasn't my imagination, dealer did the lube kit, and after about a month and a half, I haven't had any further problems. Then again, I do 95% highway driving, so if it does re-emerge, it won't be for a while! I'm not too worried about it, if its going to show up again, I have another 4 years and 47k of warranty left. Other than that, the only problem I've had is with grime getting into the support cables between the cab and the frame, causing the worst creak EVER. Other then a creak and a clunk, I've had no problems in 13k miles and just over one year of ownership.
