One of the things i look forward to the most is giving my future eclipse a paint job.. But i really wanna be unique with it (dont we all :grinyes: ) so i was thinking of goin pearlescent, i just cant get over how sick that looks. I was thinkin of a red/black mix for the pearlescent, is that a possible combination? Come to think of it, how the hell do pearlescents work? is it one paint or one on top another? :eek7:

im no paint expert, but i think it would have to be 2 similar colors, so that they dont "clash" together, but i could be wrong. it would look real nice though

i thought blue and purple was called burple or some shit. anyhow your gonna want to do something like what o her said. paint it like blue or something then use like a yellow pearl in the clear coat and it should get a tint in the right light. i dont think the black and red will work. black is too dark and the red will just get drowed out when the light is right.

You could probably do black base with red flakes. Depending on how prominent you want the red to be, you can do more coats or use bigger flakes (so I understand anyway)

i was thinkin of doin a metallic black, then puttin on the red pearl. the red coat'll be put on thicker i guess... so wen the sun hits it it looks reddish, but other than that, black. that way i can tell insurance its painted BLACK LOL :nono: HEY, now that i think about it, HOW MUCH is a paint job like that gonna cost? I mean i know it varies, but to get it done by a high quality custom shop, what you think it'll run me? My dad painted his durango, cost him 2500!!! Way too much i think.. THe job sucked too! :swear: And all he did was paint it candy red wit a black stripe down the middle.

well you will prolly end up with a dark cherry type of color in the sun. paintjobs can really range. anywere from a few hundred bux to many many thousands. it really depends on the shops in your area. but if i have to take a guess i would say for a decent paintjob anywere in the range of 800-1200 with jams and bay included.

lol, j/p man.

It funny how recently ive seen some eclipse's with that color. I was planning to get the kind of paint job InnerDragon was talking about for the gs, but decided not to. I might end up painting the gst since its green, but for now i got other things to worry about.

^^ Yeah, definately not a guys color, but if I was a guy and wanted the car bad enough I would have taken it anyway.

I really want to change my color too. Mines looks blue sometimes, then sometimes it looks green. I don't like either colors.

I was thinking first to paint it highlighter hot pink with silver flakes $$$, but then I heard that neon paint fades really bad. (I know... it's too ricer like, but I really didn't care)

So then I went to black with thick silver flakes in it.

Then, I've been thinking about dark orange with gold flakes... More $$$. I will probably stick with the black w/ silver. I'd be happy with that.

at first i wanted to paint my car blue... in fact i even bought the paint from house of kolor.. but latly iv been thinking black. I dont have a lot of experience painting cars and i figure black is a nice easy color to paint.. or at least easier than house of color so blue graphic lol...

Yeah go with the blue graphic! LOL I have seen one black gst in town with stock chrome wheels and it looks so nice. I like black, cause it blends so well with the darkness of night when you are trying to creep up or hide from the cop whose trying to pull you over cause of street racing.

^^^^^^ Even our green hellivknow is really good with blending in. I don't think the hot pink would work out too good. Black is better and really sexy for the gst. I just can't find anyone to paint my whole car + fix the dents from the previous owner for less than $1,000 which is a lot of dinero for paint. I mean, I could do so much to my car for $1,000 other than paint. Then I thought for the money I could learn how to paint the shit myself. How hard could it be. IF you have a moron doing it I could see it being a problem, but someone with a clue could pull it off. Of course I would test my skills out on something that wasn't worth painting, but I found this website on ebay by searching for 18 wheels and this book basically explains everything you need to know about painting a car from big dents to small dents to sanding to step by step instructions. You could probably pick one up from a book store that did the same thing. You can rent the equipment to paint and everything. Personally, I would rather do it myself, cause there's some kind of personal satisfaction when you do something yourself. I love it. You know they pay those guys at maaco minimum wage so you get minimum paint... Unfortunatly... Then you pay these guys top $ to paint your car and you hate giving it up, cause it's just PAINT! I mean c'mon! It can't be that hard. I'm ready to take a class on it just to paint my car, cause its cheaper than having someone else paint it! I know everyone who is serious about this forum will take this seriously. Even the guys who are completely dedicated to performance. 1gs and 2gs alike... We all look good. Lets make our cars our own. Trust no one but yourself! Obviously we can't take our cars to just anyone. They don't know how to work on them. I have trusted too many people that don't know how to work on a GST... (different than a RS or GS). Even the Mitsubishi dealership can't work on my car. We have to stand alone. That's why I love this forum... Usually my posts are a lot shorter, but I'm really F'ed up on a Friday night and I feel like venting. Which is good for a girl who hasn't said hardly any thing on the forum.

I'm sorry if I killed your buzz. I'm F'ed up... I should go to bed... I''m bored cause its only 2:45AM on a Friday night... That just saves some energy for Saturday. :evillol:

I'm sorry GSTRacerNVUS I don't agree what you said about the paint when it come to paint you should bring to somebody who has been doung it for many years. As for me there is no way I would have gotten the paint job i wanted if I would have done it myself.

By the way I painted my car with a midnight blue base paint And the coated the a pearl purple clear coat and in the backround I had the guy do a dragon from the front to the back faded into the paint so when you look at it from different angles it looks like it is moving for me to do it my self would have been inpossible and this price was worth it $3,565.00

sounds cool.
helliviknow and gstracer: painting takes a lot of specialized tools to do and just the tools could cost you almost 1000 bucks. and even though black seems like it would be easy its not. black will actually show every mistake you make. pearlescents are also a bitch to spray i've heard, since you have to keep the paint mixed to get the flakes. you also have to ground the car correctly so that the flakes lay mostly flat and dont stand on end.

wow this is a old thread.. and far as equipment i already have it all. I have a few diferent guns including my new hvlp gravity feeder. I have a compressor big enough to run em continuous and I can even get ahold of a air dryer or whatever there called from my uncle.. the only thing i dont have is a booth but iv seen many paint jobs done just fine in a garage. My cousin has a beater that the paint is real bad on so i told him id spray it if he came up with the paint and he wants black. he dont care how it comes out and i could use the practice im sure. i was going to start some autobody classes this semester but my local votech school dropped the class so yeah.. ill just have to read some books and teach myself. peace

Just saw this thread a min ago, didn't read all the posts, im in a hurry....but what about black base coat with candy red over it? candy paints seem to tint ANYTHING, ANY color.

The best paint you can get (IMO), is a metallic gold base-coat, and a pearl transparent red overcoat. Gives it a sparkly, redish gold color... awesome looking. But, my car is staying black... cant mess with a classic.

All this talk about coats is making me warm... damn cold can go to hell!

i like the sliver base more than the gold base its give it more of the shinny look, brings the color to life. Yet the gold is good too

if you want red and black be sure to ask for lots of metallic and pearl in you paint. i got blue/black and thats what they told me was in it.its meant to be a blue paint but with all the pearl and metallic it kinda looks black from certain angles.

When my went in to be repainted for the acid damage ($3645) the body shop had the car for almost 5 weeks! I don't mind because they did an awesome job. They had guys to do the body work, different guys to take the body panels off, guys to tape, sand paint, detail. They were all the best at what they do (hence the $3645). I don't know that I would like to try it myself (it would probably take me 9 months!)
