CD Player / Console Problems

Hello Everyone,

I just bought a 2003 2500HD. It has a stock radio in it, without a cd player. I was at BestBuy this weekend shopping for a new deck, when the worker there informed me of some bad news. I originally planned on installing it myself, but he told me that they charge $150 more to install things on trucks like mine because they must relocate the original radio. He said if i were to go unplug the stock one and plug a cd player in that the air bags could blow, guages would fail, etc. Has anyone found this out to be true??? I called a few GM Service desks...some agreed with the best buy story, and others did not. The GM guys also said that it would most likely void my warranty. I thought maybe a cheaper and lesk risky route would be to keep the stock radio in, and just install a 6-disc changer. Any thoughts or experience with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

On a lighter note, I am looking for a fold down console for the same truck. I have the 40/20/40 split bench right now, but no console. Does anyone have one for sale??????

Thanks.

Bestbuy are famous for not knowing what they are talking about. Take your truck to a good car audio shop and have them install a deck for you. $150 I highly doubt.

Hes yanking your chain man. I've put several cd players in 03-05 models already. The only thing you might loose is your door chimes, but these can be kept if you purchse the correct wiring adapter.

my wife's 03 alero has to have the radio relocated or it will not crank. why some one would make a car that if the radio was stolen or taken out that the car would not crank i dont know but obviously they dont want us to make changes to OUR trucks

BS BS BS... You don't need to have your radio relocated. The only thing you are going to lose is your door chimes like jeverett said. Your airbags are NOT going to go off, everything he said was crap. Buy the $50 harness for the truck, install it yourself, give him the finger, and enjoy the new CD player.

yea i was looking into this too. i already have the factory cd player but was looking to replace it. at Crutchfield.com they say you have to install an adapter, like jeverett said, and i believe it costs $79. otherwise you lose your door chimes. nothing else was noted, and crutchfield is always spot-on with install tips.

i spent $26 bucks on the gm antenna adaptor and a wiring harness. put the head unit in in about 30 minutes. i lost the door chimes, that's it. no airbags, gauges, etc. that's ridiculous.

go to a real shop. best buy guys are telling you lies.

but honestly...is loosing the door chimes a bad thing? I would like to do without mine.

I know when I get a new CD player im definetly having a pro install it. After hackin up my old car (88' tarus:headshake ) I would rather have someone else do it.
