have a 99 ultra front end wallows like a boat. also have a 2000 ultra that doesn't. i've heard NOT to put in aftermarkets on these cars. any advice. dealer wants big bucks. gm buys these shocks from someone, are they proprietary?

The Aftermarkets ride harder than the factories, however the car is pretty heavy so its not as bad. Monroe sensatracs are great. I would put those on for the price.

my problem is that the aftermarket shock companies don't show a different shock for the non-ultra and the ultra, yet gm says that the ultra (98+) got the 'touring suspension' code Y56, and i would dread a softer ride than i have now.
Do the monroe sensatrac ride harder than the non-ultra and/or the ultra? thanks

Again the aftermarkets will ride a bit harder than the stocks, however again the car is a heavy car so its not gunna be that noticable. Aftermarkets probably use one part number.
