Passat Cambelt

Uk 2000 (W)Plate 1.8 SE 67k miles
I have recently aquired this car and contacted a dealer
to determine when the cambelt should be changed.
They informed me that this particular model/year has a recommended
change by VW scheduled at 120,000 miles!
The previous years model however was scheduled for 80,000 miles?
I am bit concerned about 80,000 miles let alone 120,000 miles.
Has anybody got any experience/comments on this.

Dealer quotes appox £500 (big job apparently, front end off!) for labour, parts, vat etc

but would suggest the belt be checked/replaced
for peace of mind!!

For the U.S. market, the 2001 1.8T change interval is 105K miles, which I consider way too long.

Actually its 80k on 02' up 1.8t's. For some reason though the 98-01 says 105k, which is too much. Its ok 2 do it at 60k, especially if its the original t-belt and you have an older style (98-01) passat. ALways replace the tensioner and water pump also. Its about a $1000 job but well worth it!
