Question about rpms

I was wondering if you add mods to your car, such as intake, exhaust, header, etc, how is that going to affect the rpms that you run, or is that all in the transmission? Currently at approximately 82 mph my CRX Si is at 4000 rpms. Is there any easy way of decreasing this number, but still keeping the 6500 rpm redline?

You can get an adjustable cam gear and retard the timing so you have "slightly" more in topend thus making 82mph in 5th gear lower in your rpm band. Basically, there's not much you can do though except change out your Si tranny for a dx tranny but why would you do that?

there is nothing you can do to change the "rpm vs. mph" besides for changing your transmission gearing or the external diameter of your front tires.

adding more horsepower will not change anything. All it will do is get you to 82mph & 4000 rpm a little quicker

What about your top speed? Is that going to increase? Becuase if over the curve, you're putting out more hp, will that increase your top speed?

it will increase your top speed definately. I topped out at 6200 rpms in 4th gear and couldnt go any faster. dont know how fast i was going cuz i dont have working dash lights.

sorry to be a whore but that just looks really funny to me...you saying i was 6200 rpm in 4th ...and seeing your car in your sig....sorry not trying to make fun of you or anything. i know the story behind that.

clawhammer if you want your rpm's lower just get a dx tranny, it seems to make the car get there alot slower...(cuz it dose). and if you already have a dx or can not afford a new (used) tranny just slow down a little.

lol, i was in 5th doing well over 200 with my ZC and didnt know how much faster i was going since the cluster goes to 200 lol and i was around 5500 rpm. i hit 200 somewhere around 4150 rpms

Derek what tranny you got man? i have a zc tranny and was doing 180 at 5000 i think
