I build almost anything that's looking good and/or is a subject that appeals to me in other ways. Not only cars :screwy: even if that is my main focus.

I like cars in general, no specific type or category.

I like building models of cars that I like-sometimes it's because of color, shape-sometimes it scratches an itch for wanting the 1:1 car, sometimes I build models of cars that I wouldn't want to drive, but for some reason I think seeing it in model form is cool. :screwy:

I'll build tuners, old American cars, old-school Japanese or European, exotics of any era, show cars, classics, muscle cars, sport bikes.

I drive a white '96 Miata, I have all the reference in the world in the garage, I have Tamiya Miata and Eunos kits and Revell Miata kits but I haven't had the urge to build it yet (it's been painted for 5 years)...it's more fun to drive than to build. More fun to build what I don't have, or what I would dream to have. I had a Taurus SHO from '91-'94, I have that kit and tons of photo reference I took from my car, and it still sits in a box. It was a lovely car, but a fucking lemon. It was fast, but a bitch to own. Don't know if I'll ever build it, though a model of it would be incredibly cool...I loved how the car looked, and loved the Yamaha engine...it looked incredible, sounded incredible, and was quick (though today tons of cars would spank it in performance).

In real life, I prefer owning Japanese imports. But I love most any performance-oriented car, I love seeing restored muscle cars, pro-touring cars, billet rods and rat rods, factory show cars, and any classic that is worthy of a concours d'elegance.

basically everything. There is'nt a type of car I don't like. I've own a American/Japanese 1995 Geo Prism, and a Korean 2001 Hyundai Accent. I build everything from 20's street rods to Tuners.

Good old fashioned American Muscle. It's what I want 1:1, and it's what I want on my shelves. It's in the posters on the walls. (well, aside from the Murceilago and the Mclaren...) Hot Rods just have history and charisma; they embody the American dream. Imports are cool and all, I guess I just hold a personal grudge against tuners and well, rice because they destroyed a legacy of street racing in my home town. Before "that movie" you would see 9-second street cars out at County Line, battling for the TRUE fastest street car title. Like Buddy's '67 Chevelle with a 502 and a supercharger. Dragsters were often trailered out for test n' tune on empty highways. The cops looked the other way because hey, at least we weren't drinking. Brute power pounded the two-lane blacktop, leaving two wide swatches of rubber as far as the headlights could see. Exhaust so loud it'd make your heart skip a beat, and the smell of C-16 race fuel filled the air. That's how I spent my high school nights, out in the middle of no where with people who called the stuff "nitrous" instead of nawwws and who loved nothing more than racing the same kind of car their daddy drove.

Then the fast and the furious came out, ricers flooded the streets in their 19-second neons, endangering little old ladies crossing the street and the street racing legend of West Texas. Now, if you're caught street racing, (which is very loosely defined by law), you 1)go to jail 2)are fined sometimes thousands of dollars AND 3)have your car impounded.

However, I find rally racing very entertaining :iceslolan

Sports cars...
Mostly european, throw in a mild custom or a pickup truck even some asian 'tuner' wheels from time to time.
Lets see, I'm working on a 300ZX vert., a custom New Beetle, a Diablo roadster.

As for real cars, I've been driving Supra's for almost 20 years.

Well, for 1:1 cars I like anything with a V8(american muscle). I am partial to Chevy's first and Mopar second but a nice Ford will catch my eye as well. Similar tastes for models but I also build exotics & customs that I could not afford in real life!

Hey,

I build anything and everything. I try to make unusual models. But most of the models, (out of the many to-do on teh shelf) the I have completed are Japanese cars or rally cars. My real car is a Subaru Baja.

Does it have four wheels? Will it make you wet your pants when you stand on the throttle or whip it around a corner? Would granddad think it was a spaceship, or would grandmom say it's too loud? If yes to any of these, I'll build a model of it.

Lately, though (as in, one car complete and another in design phase) I've been interested in model speculation - building cars that could exist in a couple years. This limits me to Japanese models, I mean, let's not fool ourselves. USA made some sick cars before 1980 but since then they've had a hard time getting excitement back on the showroom floor. That said, where's my damn AMT GTO?!!

(And the '05 Mustang has caught my fancy, I do beleive Steve McQueen would indeed approve.)

Did not the new Corvette excite you? Or the Viper? Ford GT? 2003 Mach 1? America's still got it. Take the LS1. An out of the box Camaro back in 2002 could run 13's and still get 30 MPG with a 6-speed. A Corvette takes corners like it's on rails, sounds sweet, and makes good power while not sacrificing that fuel mileage.

AMT GTO as in, old school or as in 2004 Holden based GTO??

I prefer sports cars and sometimes cars that i'd like to see in small scale. In real life I like all sports cars, whether it's american, japanese, or european. My favorite car of course is the Supra. Not because of the fast and the furious though. I didn't watch that movie until I found out that a Supra came out in it :D

Did not the new Corvette excite you?

No. With a Ferrari rip off front end and an otherwise featureless lump of design, that car doesn't excite me. I'd much rather the previous generation, with all it's equal goodness on the track and a much better look. Corvettes are about the only sports car we still make. What makes them so great? Independent rear suspension. The car's performance is very exciting, though, and I would certainly drive it anyway.

Or the Viper?

Maybe if I was a caveman. All that thing has is 10 cylinders. Beyond that it's garbage. It was competitive a couple years ago but I don't see it holding its own anymore.
Edit - it has been pointed out to me that it runs with a V8 in Grand-Am, which both sucks for the Viper but also validates my point more, I think, that it can't do much without those two extra pistons.

Ford GT?

Ford's desperate and lame attempt to pretend that they still "have it?" No indeed. That car will in no way reassert Ford's dominance in motorsport like the real deal did in the 1960's. They need to take a cue from Chevy and start developing something that is more than a gimmick before they can be taken seriously in the exotic car market.

2003 Mach 1?

Yeah. If it had the Cobra's independent rear suspension (oops, there that comes again). I know that sounds like a cheap way out, but shit, how can I take your car seriously with rear axle like that? Welcome to the 21st century.

America's still got it. Take the LS1. An out of the box Camaro back in 2002 could run 13's and still get 30 MPG with a 6-speed. A Corvette takes corners like it's on rails, sounds sweet, and makes good power while not sacrificing that fuel mileage.

That's true.

AMT GTO as in, old school or as in 2004 Holden based GTO??

The new one. I don't, for the life of me, understand the backlash against the "Holden based GTO." Holden is just a marketing name for GM in Australia, it's just another car out of the parts bin. The original GTO was just a big motor dropped into a Tempest (right? Tempest?) s what's wrong with dropping a big motor into another little otherwise pedestrian coupe? They would have been better using the LS1, but they're about to, right after they ugly it all up. Would it have been better if the dropped a V8 and RWD into a Cavalier? Would that have smoothed over the "Oh no not Australian!" issue?

And I'm not saying that Japan is perfect either. Honda, who I adore, has absolutely destroyed their lineup by taking the godsend that was double wishbones out of the back of everything they sell in my price range. Their US spec Si is just awful, and I pray that the next generation of Hondas goes back to what made Honda so great. On the other hand, the S2000 and the NSX are two of the most exciting cars available. Piss and moan about how underpowered they are, but both are cleverly engineered and precisely balanced, tuned and developed and make up for it. Their power is far more accessible than one might think, if you drive them properly, and they make up for lack of power by being able to carry speed through a turn instead of bludgeoning their way out with tire spinning smokey fury. The NSX, though, is obsolete. The revolutionary, and still impressive all aluminum construction and frenetic little V6 just don't cut it anymore. It never was the Ferarri killer it set out to be, but now it's way overpriced for being a mid-pack sports car. I still like it, though, it's dead sexxy.

Nissan's best effort is a porker, the 350Z is the more popular alternative to the S2000 because of the addition of two more cylinders. But other than that, it's nothing special. It's just a run of the mill Japanese sports car that comes in a plain brown wrapper that says "sports car" on the outside. What else does Nissan have? The G35? A heavier version of the same car? Nuts to them.

Mazda. Oh, Mazda. All they can get right is the Miata. The only car they make worth its salt. The RX-8 is a sad, sad place to put the absolutely sublime little rotary they make. Tricky little four door with a chassis more flexible than Jenna Jameson, is just dripping with chunky and poor design. Bring back the 7, you morons, and then you will sell cars. The Miata, though, scrappy little motor and RWD is just a beautiful machine. Wish I'd gotten one of those instead of my Civic.

Mitsu and Scoobie - EVO8 and WRX. The EVO's get worse with each iteration, I understand, and they only compete with each other for the "we love rally - gotta have AWD" crowd. Still. Very exciting and capable little cars that just murder anything America tries to pit them against.

But really, what does it matter 99civichic? When you make your comparison list of cars, do you put an S2000 next to a Camaro? Do I put a Mustang next to a 350Z? No. It's rediculous to argue, as we all have our own favorites. But don't call me out. I've got the presumption to defend my opinions.

I drive a 2002 VX Holden Commodore - i've seen a resin kit once of an earlier model (VT) but i missed out (ltd edition). If they'd release a kit of it again, i'd buy it. But i can't see it happening :frown:

Holden may be the marketing division for GM in Australia but the Monaro was completely thought up over here, it was built here as a revival to Hodlens last 'true' Aussie muscle car. I personally think GM should stop sending Holden they're damn engines, the best V8 ever made for our cars was the Holden 308 and they ditched that in the first year of the VT commodore. Of course it's my opinion but I'd rather of seen the Monaro stay in Australia and be powered by an Australian engine, I'd also like Holden to break off from GM after all Holden has the designs and market to be an individual, and we already import Holdens to other parts of the world, just look at that 2005 Chevy Caprice, that is a 2004 Holden Statesman, anyway this has nothing to do with the subject.

I like to build any car that is nice, I'm building an S13 Silvia, 1966 GT350 Mustang, 1959 Impala lowrider and an R1 RX7 oh and the Monte carlo. I'm soon getting a VIP Celsior to build aswell. I'll never build a Ferrari Enzo :screwy:
