Ok today i had it with my car. I was driving and i was feeling every bump on the road even more. For some reason i just have to get a smoother ride. Im tired of hitting these bumps and bouncing around all over the place. OK im not big on money. So i dont really noe what to get. Shocks? what do springs actually do for your car? Just handle better? i just want a less bumpy ride. I dont want to lower my car or anything. I saw some shocks on ebay for 200 i think they wer kyb gr2 or something? are these ok? will i need to replace springs too? Are these fairly easy to install?
And yes i did search first but the only thing that comes up is for people who want to have better launches and handleling. I just want a smoother ride.

im not sure how much shockswould help... if you found any that would help id bet it would be in the gas adjustable area. that way if its not good one way you can adjust it until your getting as smooth as possible. i dunno its gonna be tough though a eclipse wasnt really meant to ride like a lincoln i dunt think... peace

So its not worth it?

if you get a air suspension kit they give a really soft ride. it wont handle worth shit but anything that makes it softer will make handling worse

Yeah, the aftermarket is made up of primarily performance and lowering suspensions, not many people looking for a luxury ride in an eclipse. Sorry. Air bags seem like your best bet though.

Ur shocks might just be dead. When I baught my car about 6months ago it still had the factory shocks from 95. Check to see is ur shocks are shit.

How good are your tires george536?
I think my tires are making my ride bouncy.
I feel like I'm on a vibrating bed (I kinda like it  )... j/k.
I had to put some really crappy tires on my car temporarily. Since then, I feel like I need a chiropracter to ride around with me to crack my back every time I get out of the car.

My tires are pretty uneven. Ive been meaning to replace for all new ones but i havent got the money. but still i thing its too much for it just to be the tires. i hit the slightest thing and you can feel it bad.

bad tires will make vibrations or noise as you go and usually get worse the faster you go. they wont really make bumps worse unless your tires pressures are really high

my car didnt handle very well a couple months ago, so i bought some gabriel struts that are the same size as stock off of ebay and it rides pretty smooth now. just the struts not the springs. i did it myself in about a weekend

i have KYB GR2 shocks and i bounce all over too! i hate it!!! fuck this car!!!! ever time you see and bump or bridge on the high way i cringe!!!! arg!
i'm sure my coil overs don't help. if i raised the coil overs would it smooth the ride out?
i'd reconmend taking your car to a suspension place and seeing what they say. maybe your shocks are shot to hell. maybe new stock shocks would help

george: the KYB GR2's would probably improve your ride with the stock springs, that's what they're made to do.
TreeFrog: the GR2's aren't made to be lowered more than an inch on, chances are you've either stretched their limits so far they don't really work anymore, or you've already blown them out. If you want to get good handling get some real performance shocks like the KYB AGX, Tokico Blues, or the granddaddy of them all, the Koni Yellow Adjustable.

so if i raise the car up it might help out the ride?

it could if you haven't already blown out your GR2's.

okay yesterday i scraped the bottom of my front bumper coming out of my driveway. i forgot i couldn't pull straight out, and i had to turn to the right and come out an angle.
I tell you what i'm so sick of this low riding bullshit!!! all i do is bounce around all the time. i had my sub box bolted down and i broke the bolts!! the subs go air borne daily! its not even funny!
anyways i set up an appointemnt on the 6th at this custom place, that does everything from turbo kits to body kits. they assure me they can raise it up and get the ride quality better.

That doesn't get any better when you raise it up a couple inches. You still have to come out of some places at an angle, but it probably will be greatly improved.

LMAO... Sorry I know it's not supposed to be funny.

what i noticed that my gs was way bouncy and rattlely, but my spyder is way softer. it takes the bumps and the railroad tracks way better.

KYBs should not be used on 2G DSMs, according to RRE.
Also, these cars arent made for an especially comfortable ride. I have 225/45/17s at the moment, and my ride is very rough. I had the same ones on my 2" dropped spyder last year, and the ride was terrible. Then I rode my firnds 96 gst on stock rims and tires, and the ride felt much smoother. Then again, when I drive my 92 Accord, it feels like a luxury sedan, lol. 2G eclipses do have a rough ride man, i think it just comes with the territory....once you start modding, there isnt much u can do to help your ride comfort.

you don't understand how bad it is! i hit my head off the ceiling!!! my sub box jumps off the floor air borne after breaking 2 screws holding it down.
plus my girlfriend hates the car because of this, and won't ride in it. this car is my baby, i can;t have my girl hate it.

make sure your tire pressures are set right.
shpyder: the less sidewall a tire has the harsher a raide its going to give. tires on 17's have much harder sidewalls so they dont absorb bumps as well.

well i got my ride rasied today. Apparently it was so low that the coil overs weren't even working. so i was basicly riding on just shocks. the numb-nuts who installed it was clueless because it hurt the handling and traction.
The results are that it's lowered now only by 1" on the coilover, and 1.5" physically lower than stock. but i'm not sure what its considered in terms of how much its lowered. its about a side skirt higher than it was before, and now that my springs are working the ride is SOOO much better. Easyer to get in and out of, traction is a lot better, wheel hop is gone, and it feels like the car has a suspension when going over bumps. it now sits level instead of the engine wieghing down the front. the styling of the eclipse still makes it look a little lower in the front but all the tire gaps are the same.
overall i'm very happy with the results. and by some miricle the shocks are still good. although their life is probably greatly diminished due having to support to whole cars weight for however long it was like that.
