ok was on ebay searching for some cams and these OBX cams came up and I looked at them, now am I mistaken or are even thier stage 3 cams barely more agressive than CTR cams? cuz Im sure the CTR cams are superior in design, and can be had cheaper too.

OBX is shit.
Keep in mind, CTR cams are going to be quality cams in the sense that they will fit well and give you OEM reliability. As far as performance goes, aftermarket cams will give you better HP gains.

not moe than the CTR cams though, I wouldnt put inything OBX on my car that was a moving part, but the price caught my eye, clicked on hte link ansd read on em and saw those specs and seemed really mellow to me so I wanted to know if that was the case.
when I get cams I am probably just gonna get ITR or CTR cams as I can get them for under half what skunk2/crower/etc's cams cost. and Im sure they are more agressive than my stock cams with ALOT of time on them

little OT but which cams would yield higher HP in a 01 GSR... ITR or CTR?

CTR cams would be better.
I think that OBX is out to try to desoil there name I've heard ther LSD roxors and they are having big name compaines make the part for them.
Crower makes there cams if i'm not mistaken. I belive that a set of Todas for the win I'll probbly be running CTR cams myself though.

CTR cams would be better.
Why? I feel funny about putting something that was designed for a 1.6 liter engine, in a 1.8 liter engine. Also, with CTR or ITR cams, would you be able to pass emissions (98 GSR). Would JDM pass, or would I have to look for USDM (and I believe that there are no USDM CTR cams or civics for that matter).

You can use CTR pistons and cams in an Integra. The pistons yeild the highest compresion ratio of all B-series engines, if I'm not mistaken. And yes, there don't have USDM CTR cams because there wasn't a USDM Civic Type R. You would have to use JDM ones. Again though, I would go with aftermarket cams (skunk2, Crower, Spoon, or Toda) all of these cams will give you more HP than OEM camshafts. I would suggest Stage 2 cams. This will ensure you still idle close to stock, but get the big gains you expect out of aggresive camshafts. Keep in mind, most of these camshafts will require you to get new valve springs and retainers at a minimum. Otherwise you could suffer from valve float. (I think thats what it's called)
I can appreciate someone who goes with CTR/ITR cams for OEM reliability, but for performance and a great HP increase, (one word) AFTERMARKET!

Would I be able to pass emissions with the JDM CTR cams? (just a guess I know each car is very different) The JDM cams are designed for a much more lax emissions control I imagine. Also, the other aftermarket cams are expensive. With CTR or ITR cams would I be required to change valvesprings and retainers?

I don't see why not. You might be able to ask Honda.

I belive you can still pass smog if not with some tuning should be fine.
The reason why CTR are better the CTR has the most agressive Intake cam the exhaust cam for both same part # and all.
It doesn't hurt to upgrade the retainers but springs yes you should put type R ones in or run aftermarket.

but if you think about it that CTR builds more power and revs higher than your GSR out of a smaller engine so the cams have gotta be pretty good. and Im not sure what route Id go, I was thinking of just ITR/CTR cuz I can find used low mileage ITR springs/retainers for pretty cheap, and same deal as cams, and aftermket valvetrain adds up quick. if I did go aftermarket though no way Id spend the money to just jump to stage 1 increase, stage 2's are more power/same price, and you can still have an idle

ok, had loaded he page, walked away for a long time and replied without refreshing.
the type R's do have different retainers as well correct?
my friend put in CTR intake, ITR exhaust cam in his GSR and when VTEC hit his car sounded insane, never got to run it though, as more work was being done in the shop, got stolen out of the parking lot never to be seen again.
