would it be more or less to go to my local muffler shop and tell him to put a catback on to get some more hp or just get like a Sk2 or Evo exaust. im sure he could hook me up with somethin less restrictive than stock.

The RSX doesn't really need a new exhaust unless you're doing a lot of work.....headers, Hondata, JDM Rear Sway will yield better results. Exhaust is mainly for sound and looks on the RSX.

^Yup, just get a good stainless header with that money instead.

Depends on the shop but almost always a cat-back specifically designed for your car is going to perform and sound better than one made with the parts your local exhaust shop has. You might want to wait and upgrade your exhaust once you are finished with the rest of the engine that way you only do it once. If you are going BIG go with open headers.

been over this, in the case of teh RSX, it falls into the "almost" category.

I still say wait anyway till you are done with everything else and then pick and exhaust that is right, and if you are done leave the exhaust alone.

i have read before that it doesen't do any good to get race headers if you don't get an exaust because the stock exaust will restrict it.. is that not the case with the type-s??

Race header will definitely give better gains- just make sure it's legal in your area. As far as restriction is concerned (like CC said), the stock exhaust is very smooth flowing, so it's not going to be as much of an issue as it would be with many other cars. Get a good quality RH or 4-2-1 and save the exhaust for last if you really have to have one.

as long as you do not live in an area with the dragnet course, you should be good. Unless you have smart cops, then your screwed.
If you can find some way to actually lock you hood down, they need a warrant to open it.

i doubt any cops in my area would get me for havin a race header.. i doubt any around here would give a shit or not. why would they just randomly think i might have an illegal header?.. is it that much of a sound dif?

can be. But in some areas, the police target the race cars specifically and run their tag, sometimes pull them over just to check. In California teh day of the first dragnet course, 200 cars got pulled over and over 100 got towed.

I'm not sure if a race header affects emissions in any way, either?

I assure you, they can be illegal.

The cops have been known to have mirrors with lights attached to sticks and they stick it under the car to check for a cat. And an RH is emissions illegal cuz it eliminates the cat (although I believe there is a way to make the jacson Racing RH legal....).
